June 20, 2001
The special called meeting of Mayor and Council was held at Smyrna City Hall. The meeting was
called to order by presiding officer Mayor A. Max Bacon at 7:00 o'clock p.m. All council
members were present. Also present were City Administrator Howard Smith, City Clerk Kellie
Barber, City Attorney Scott Cochran, Judge Adele Grubbs, Elections Superintendent Linda Smith
and representatives of the press.
FORMAL BUSINESS:

(A)
Election results
Election Superintendent Linda Smith presented the election results for the special election for
Ward I, and announced that Melleny Pritchett won the election to fill the vacated Ward 1 seat.
Mayor Bacon thanked Mrs. Smith.
(B) Oath of office
Judge Grubbs administered the Oath of Office to Melleny Pritchett, Councilwoman of Ward 1.
Mayor Bacon welcomed Ms. Pritchett and congratulated her on her campaign. Councilwoman
Pritchett stated that she is looking forward to working with Mayor Bacon, the Council members
and the citizens of Ward 1.
(C) Oath of office - City Clerk
Judge Grubbs administered the Oath of Office to Kellie Barber, City Clerk. Mayor Bacon
congratulated Mrs. Barber on her appointment.
Mayor Bacon thanked Judge Grubbs for administering the Oath of Office to Councilwoman
Pritchett and Mrs. Barber. Judge Grubbs thanked Mayor Bacon for inviting her to participate in
the ceremony and stated that the City of Smyrna is beautiful.
Councilman Hawkins stated that the Oath of Office is a very special event and that he is excited
... to work with Councilwoman Pritchett and Mrs. Barber.
Councilman Scoggins welcomed Councilwoman Pritchett and stated that he is proud to work with
her.
With no further busin ss, meeting adjourned at 7: 13 p.m.
