June 26, 1976
A special called meeting of Mayor and Council was held Saturday morning, June 26,
1976, at City Hall, Smyrna, Georgia, for the purpose of opening bids. All Council-
men were present except Rem Bennett and Jim Tolleson. The meeting was called
to order by Mayor Arthur Bacon at 9:00 A.M. Also present was Willouise Spivey,
City Clerk.
All Agents present were advised the bids would be opened, the committee would
meet and go over them, and a decision would be made next Monday night.
Companies submitting bids are as follows:
Life of Virginia
Blue Cross/Blue Shield
Prudential
Liberty National Life
Phoenix
Home Life Insurance
Hartford Insurance
Boston Mutual Life
State Mutual Life
Guardian Life Insurance
Aetna Life Insurance
Many of the bids were not totaled to give one exact cost, and after discussion
around the table and from the floor, Bill Darby made a motion the bids be referred
to the committee for study and consideration, to be brought back at the next
Council meeting. Jerry Mills seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Bids were opened, read and recorded as follows for the installation of sirens for
the Civil Defense Department:
Baldwin Electric Co. $1,385.00
Prather Electric Co. 1,995.00
Bill Darby made a motion the bids be referred to committee with authority to
accept the low bid. Jerry Mills seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Meeting adjourned at 11:10 A.M.
