5� The regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held August 5, 19573 8:00PP,M. at•the City Hall. Mayor James E. Quarles presiding with the following Councilman present: N. E. Brenner, J. E. Johnson, J. G. White and R. H. Wood. Meeting called to order by Mayor Quarles. for Mr. Hoyt of N. Burbank Circle presented petition requesting street light 'Belmont Hills Estates. ' Motion N. E. Brenner second J. E. Johnson that Henry T. Westbrooks be appointed as Councilman for Ward #5 to fill the unexpired tern::of A* S. Dowd. Voted Unaminous. Oath of Office given Mr. Westbrooks by Mayor Quarles. Motion J. E. Johnson second J. G. White that the City of Smyrna by action of this Council assure the United States Pipe*and Foundry of Birmingham, Alabama that they will receive' payment of their bill upon receipt by the City of Smyrna of the water Revenue Certificate Monies. Voted for, Brenner, Johnson, White and Wood. Westbrooks ©bstaining. Mayor Quarles stated that August 13th or 14th would be the date set forthe hearing on the Grand Jury Recommendations. The Appeal on the Barker Case posponedas the arresting officer was not present. rThettwo traffic lights approved,by the State Highway Board referred to street Commithe Location of the traffic lights being- Concord Road and South Cobb Drive and awhorne and N. Atlanta Street. The sidewalk paving bill of W. M. Pressly referred to Street Committee for recommendation. The request of Earnest Jones -Tax assessor to attend the Short School in Athens Ga. referred to Tax Committee with R. H. Wood as Chairman. N. E. Brenner reported tha the water and sewerage committee recommended tha the water ordinance on duplex houses remain as it now stands on the books. n the=out-fall line N. E. Brenner reported that the revised easement/with Mrs. John Baldwin had been signed. Motion N. E. Brenner seconed R. H. Wood that the September regular meeting of Mayor and Council be posponed till September 9th as it would fall on Labor Day. Voted unanaimous. N, E. Co. read calling attention to the fact that the manhole wqs not in the proper-�.location according to the Engineer plans at the intersectiont- of Kennesaw Drive and Harold Lane. Motion N. E. Brenner seconed G. White that city bear the cost of/lb to 18 ft. marhold to be constructed at the intersection of Kennesaw Dr. and Harold Lane by Mrs. Mary Benson. Voted unanimous. Motion Re H. Wood seconed J. G. White thatthe city send Mr. Ernest Jones to the Tax Assessors school im Athens. Voted unanimous. R. H. Wood read repast of A. D. Lattanzi on the Church St. Park. Motion R. H. Wood seconed J. G. White that any funds accumulating over the operating cast at the Church St. Park be applied back to the Park Dept. Voted unanimous. J. E. Johnson requesthd a joint Committee meeting be held in conjunction tid_th the Police Committee Aug. 7th at 8:00 P. M. Motion J. E. Johnson. seconed H. T. Westbrooks that a resolution be adopted to set up the note due Bank of Smyrna for ninety (90) days and hereby authorize the Mayor to sign said note with copy of resolution to beopresented to Harry Holliday. Voted unanimous. Motion J. E. Johnson seconed J. G. White that Harold Gentry request for a license to operate a package beer store at the intersection of concord Rd and S. Cobb Dr. be granted., as the Police Dept. had investigated and Police Committee so recommended.. Voted for- Johnson, White Brenner and Westbrooks. Obstaining- Wood. 1,1r. Co E. City Clerk instructed to notify County Commissioner McCollum in writti_ng that the City would patch back Campbell Rd. after sewerage was installed at a cost of App. $2,000. To be paid from construction fund. With C. W. Matthews to be put on notice of said. job in advance. Engineer Presley requested to,-aaxk out cost of installing 1�,800 ft. of water line in McKenna Sub -division. Mayor Quarles to contact commissioner 'McColl-,= on connec-ting onto county line. Letter read from State Health Dept. requested that something be done immediately on the S. Cobb Dr. pumping station.'
