06-03-1957 Regular MeetingThe regular meeting of Mayor and Council was held June 3, 1957, 8:00 P. M. fat the City Hall. Mayor James E. Quarles presiding with the follwoing Councilmen present: N. E. Brenner., A. S. Dowd., J. E. Johnson., D. M. Scarbrough., J. G. Whiteand-R. H. Wood.A r4 D m o -kA J Cr Meeting called to order. V. A. Siddall, Mrs. Edna Monk and'George Dubuc represening the Smyrna Regional Health Council Inc. requestedthe City of Smyrna to assist by providing telephor_es and water service forthe terporary health Clinic in the Cobb County'Building located at 125 Spring St. Mr. Siddall stated the County was furnishing lights and heat. Motion N. E. Brenner seconed A. S. Dowd thatthe City defray the expense of tele- phone and water services forthe health clinic. Voted unanimous. Mr. Freeman of Belmont Cab Company and Jack Diemer of Smyrna Taxi requested the meter pull be raised from 4.25 to $.35 and do away withthe $.25 minute charge on handling bundles or grocery haul. Referred to police committee. Mayor Quarles read letter from Brown Steel Company cancelling their bed on used water tank. Referred to water committee. Motion A. S. Dowd seconed Murray Sonenberg that the lecense committee unaniumously agreed that the transient --photographer license be Set the same as a resident that is $15.00 per year. Voted unanimous. 0 Algicati.on of Curtis M. Wigley., Marietta, Ga. requested permission to operate a package beer store at 126 Bank St., referred to police Dept. for checking with the license committee to make recommendations after reviewing written report from Chief Tanner, A. S. Dowd read letter containing bid from A. V. Boltom Const. Co. concerning / the heavy equipment. Councilman Dowd stated that he contacted 15 companies �f by phone about buying the equipment and his calls were followed up by city Engineer. Motion Dowd seconed Johnson that the contract committee be permitted to negotiate on alternate proposal (1/7 down and 1/7 month) subject to review of contracts committee and legal review of city attorney less $350.00 for Patrol at the price as submitted on bid $12,200.00. List of equipment as follows:-- a� HD#9 Bulldozer V Lowboywith crane trencher (Parson) Cleveland ditcher Adams grader -Patrol Pan Voted Unanimous: Motion J. E.-Johnson seconed by Murray Sonnenberg that the planning committee ordiance be adopted as presented. Copy of said ordinance attached to these minutes and be made a part thereof. Voted unanimous. Willingham arrived. Motion J. E. Johnson seconed Murrary Sonenberg that the Federal Grant resolution application be adopted. Copy of said resolution be attached to these minutes and made a part thereof. Voted unanimous. Ordinance on deliquent water bills referred to water and sewerage committee for review. ko(_✓ Motion Sonenberg seconed Johnson thatihe law bid of A. V. Bolton in the amount of $24,229.00 for the pump station on South Cobb Drive be accepted. Voted Unanimous. NW; Motion Brenner seconed Dowd that the .3ropbrty of Hobbs Ruinblin and Hicks adjoining Medical Center property on Cherokee Road marked on plat as reserved for business must go thru regular zoning channels. Voted unanimous. Motion Brenner 'seconed Sonenberg that the 'zoziing 'hearing on the Schultz property located at the corner of Momosa and Spring St. be set for June 17, 1957 at 1:00 PM. Voted unanimous. Motion Dowd seconed Brenner that J. G. White and R. H. Wood be appoin- ted to serve on the taxxassessors boardidth Ernest Jones as chairman.
