A special meeting of Mayor and Council was held May 16, 1957, 8:00
PM at the "City Hall, Mayor James Be Quarles presiding witht he
following Councilmen present: N. Be Brenner, A. S. Dowd, J. Be
Johnson, D. M. Scarbrough, J. G. White and the C i_ty Attorney,
Harold S. Willingham.
Main purpose of the meeting to go overwith•En%ineer San Hensley and
Attorney Willingham the sewerage outfall line.
Hensley presented a brocure on the porposed expansion program and
gave a lengtly disdussion on his plans as outlined.
Motion N. E. Brenner seconed D. M. Scarbrough to advise the 'Cobb
County School Board that the City entedded to give sewerage'to King
Spring Rd. School subject to negotiation withthem and cost of in-
stalliaion to be paid by said school. Voted unanimous.
Mayor Quarles read letter of resignation of Judge John Be Kelley.
Motion A. S. Dowd seconed J. G. White that a letter of appreciation
be accepted with regrets. Voted unanimous.
Motion Brenner second Johnson that Mayor Quarles be authorized to
purchase and sign the papers for Civil Defense Recruiting Unit at
cost of $3,494.42 with 1/2 cost be paif by the matching funds
program and the other 1 2 by the volunteer Fireman with the City
Clerk to issue purchase order. Voted unanimous.
Mayor Quarles reported that the County Commission had promised
to out Ward Street thur to Powder Springs St. and pave said street
when cut.
Motion J. Be Johnson seconed N. E. trenner thAt the city Attorney be
authorized to condemm the property of Sly Thompson if negotiation
failed with Thompson so Ward Street could be extended thru to
Powder Springs st. Voted Unanimous.
Motion N. E. Brenner seconed D. M. Scarbrough that the water and
sewerage committee recommended that sewerage line be extended to
the Cherokee Rd. Medical Center. Cost of sewer tap for Medical
Center bo be $1,000.00. Voted unanimous.
Motion Brenner seconed Scarbroug.-i that the water and sewerage comm-
ittee recommended that the lift station on S. Cobb Drive be moved
across highway as this was necessary. Cost of said relocation to
be approximately $11,033.00. Voted unanimous.
Supt. David requested to get prices on new Road Patrol. Councilamn
Johnson stated that commissioner McCollum said that the resurfacing
of Powder Springs Street would start the firot week in June.
Councilman White presented bids for an addition to tip Fire Dept.
building as follows.

Smyrna Builder 41,425100
Bids rejected until plans specification could be drawn up for
addition to building to house, both units.
Motion D. M. Scarbrough seconed N. Be Brenner that the street
r.. committee recommends that the drainage problem on Dell Ave.
Evelyn St. in Mr. Leers yard be fixed at an estimated cost of
$1,450.00 with City Engineer responsible .for said work. Voted
unanimous.
Attention was called tot he surface water problem of Gene Helms.
Behind his house on Medten street.
Motion Scarbrough seconed Brenner to Adjourn.
Meeting adjourned.
