The regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held December 5
1955 at the City Hall at 7:45 P.M. Mayor James E. Quarles presiding
with the following Councilmen present; N.E. Brenner, John S. Collier,
Jean E., Johnson, A.M. Poston and ensuing councilmen A.V. Bolton,
Murray Sonenburg, and D.M. Scarborough, and R.H. Wood.
Mr. Luke Boring representing The Little and Minor League wanted
wanted assurance that facilities would be furnished at Brinkley
Park va they could play five (5)-,nights- A week during ball season.
Mation by John S. Collier seconded by N.E.. Brenner to adopt minutes
as read.
Motion by N.E. Brenner seconded by A.M. Poston that the one year
widow's Support of Mrs. Ben H. Bradley be acknowledged and recognized,
relieving her of the 1955 advalorum taxes. Voted unanimous.
Motion by John &a Collier seconded by A.M. Paston to.pay note
number two (21`7 in the amount of one thousand eight hundred ninety
($1,890.00), dollars plus interest due on the Ford Fire Truck
December 28, 1955 to The Bank of Smyrna. Voted unanimous.
Motion by N.E.. Brenner seconded by John S. Collier to pay one
thousand ($1,000.00 dollars on the principal amount plus interest
on the note outstanding against the Fire & Police Bldg. on W..
Spring St. tm the Cobb Exchange Bank due December 13, 1955. Voted
unanimous..
The contract from The Kessler Ca. explained by Water Supt. David
concerning the needed repairing of the water tank.
Permission was requested by Belmont Hills Company to park a business
trailor - in front of W'. T. Grant department store for a period of time
thru December 25„ 1.955. ,
Motion by Jean E. Johnson, deconded by John S'. Collier that council
through special dispensation grant Belmont Hills request as -stated.
Voted unanimous.
Motion by A.M.. Poston seconded by Jean E." Johnson that phone for
incoming fire call: only be installed in the Fire Department at a,
cost of eleven dollars ($11.001, per month. Voted unanimous..
Motion by John S. Collier seconded by Jean E. Johnson that the
Street lights proposal for Oakdale and relocating of lights on
Bank and Powder Springs Street by Georgia Power Company be approved
at a cost of $734.00. Voted unanimous.
Motion by N..E. Brenner* seconded by John S. Coollier that the
regular meeting scheduled for Jan 3rd be posponed until Jan 9, 1956
because of the holiday. Voted unanimous..
Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by John S. Collier that the request
of Mrs. Geo Marchman for rezoning 498 Concord Rd. for a beauty shop
be denied. Voted unanimous.
Motion by N.E. Brenner seconded by A.M. Poston that the City of Smyrna
will not pay any further money to the Cobb County Planning and Zoning
Board until such board will guarantee the City that the plans for
dwellings to be built in adjacent, ar�pijol. the City of Smyrna and
especially areas furnished water y sa dci%y in advance of the
building of such dwellings. Vot�d unanimous.
Motion by N.E. Brenner seconded by Jean Johnson that the Property
owned by William W McNeal and Gardner A Potter designated on Plat
submitted adjoining existing City Limits, City of Smyrna be on
application of William. McNeal and Gardner A, Potter acce-ted in
City of Smyrna. Copy Ordinance and said plat attached to these
minutes and made a part thereof. Voted unanimous.
Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by Jean E. Johnson that the Fleet
Insurance Policy be renewed with Collier Insurance Agency as per
contract submitted.., Voting for - Brenner, Johnson, and Poston,
Collier - Abstaining.
The General. liability Policy which expires Dec. 23, to be held over
until first meeting in January. Motion Jean E. Johnson seconded A.M.

Poston that the contract for sidewalks, curb and gutter on
King Street etween W. Spring Street and Church Street and a
portion on X hurch Street be given to Charles R. Thomas for
$29388.25/
City Attorney advised Council to withhold action on the'
twenty f-ive cents ('.25)' service charge -for delivering groceries
by the Smyrna Taxi Co.
Mayor Quarles retired. Mayor Pro-Tem Brenner took chair.
Motion by Jean E. Johnson seconded by A.M. Poston that the
firm of Willingham and - Belcher be employed for the 1.955 audit
at the set price of $750.00 and per diem on charges on -setting
ug,accounts- and revising water revenue account. Voted unanimous.
Mayor Quarlie s returned.
Motion by N..E. Brenner seconded by Jean E. Johnson that the
mayor be authorized to -purchase table and chair large enough
to seat the incoming council. Voted unanimous.
Mr. Aldeup Kieffer made an offer to give said table and offer
was graciously accepted.
Motion by A.M. Poston,. seconded by J.E. Johnson to adjourn.
