A special meeting of the Mayor and Council was held September 26,
1955 at 8:00,P.M. at the City Hall. Mayor Pro Tem #. E. Brenner
opening the meeting with Mayor Quarles arriving late. The followirg
Councilmen were present: John S. Collier,.V. R. Siddall and Jean
E. Johnson. City Attorney Willingham was present.
Election Manager Bob Austin read the certified returns of the Bond
Election.
On Motion by Councilman John S. Collier seconded by Councilman Jean
E. Johnson that the City Attorney be authorized to draw an ordinance
authorizing the issuance and sale of $125,000-Recreation Bonds and
$75;000 Municipal Building Improvement Bonds. Copy of Ordinance
attached to and made a part thereof of these minutes. Voted unanimous.
Mr. Earnest Jones thanked Mayor and Council for sending him toth e
Tax Assessors Short Course' in Athens.
Mayor Quarles arrived.
Motion N. E. 'Brenner seconded,Jean E. Johnson that the General Tax
rate be set at 11 mills and the tax leavy to retire bonds be 2 mills,!
Voting for - Johnson, Collier, & Brenner, Against - Siddall,
Attorney Willingham/issued dinner invitation to Mayor and Council for
Tuesday, October 2 1955 at 7:00 P.M. at Aunt Fanny's Cabin.
Motion N. E. Brenner. seconded Jean E. Johnson to adjourn. Voted
unanimous.
