07-06-1955 Regular MeetingThe regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held July 6, 1955 at the'City Hall at 7:45 PM. Mayor James F. Quarles presiding with the following councilmen present: N. E. Brenner, John S. Collier, Jean E. Johnson, V. R. Siddall and A. M. Poston arriving late. Minutes of the June meeting read. Motion N.E. Brenner seconded John S. Collier to adopt minutes as read. Voted unanimous. H E. Williams of 433 Pinehurst Drive spokesman for his neighbors petition Mayor and Council to eliminate and abate.the nuisance that is being maintained by Bill Taylor of 436 Pinedale Drive. Referred to Police Committee and Police Chief to work out something. Mrs. R. C. Miller, 507 Oakdale Drive requested street light at the intersection of Oakdale and South Cobb Drive. Mr. Elbert Fields presented petition requesting curb and gutter on Oakdale Drive. Letter of resignation of Charles R. Thomas read by Mayrn . Motion Jean E. Johnson seconded by V. R. Siddall that the business license of the Safety Cab ComIR ny be revoked as of midnight July 60 1955 on grounds of obtaining them on false pretense. Hearing will he granted if requested. Voted unanimous. Councilman Siddall reported on informal Street Committee -meeting held July 1st., Motion V.R. Siddall seconded John S. Collier that the Park Committee be.given authority to have a light switch installed at the concession stand at the ball park at a cost of approximately ten dollars ($10.) and installing necessary lights for the rest room. Voted unanimous, Motion V. R. Siddall seconded John S. Collier to let contract at five cents per gallon -to shoot the following streets with oil to keep down dust. Corn Road, 300 ft. of Bank Street from end of pav- ing west and 100 ft. of parking section lying Southwest of King St. Councilman A. M. Poston arrived. Motion V. R. Siddall seconded by Jean E. Johnson that the Ordinance introduced at the April 4, 1955 regular meeting authorizing the curbing and guttering of Whitfield Street from Roswell Street to City Limit be adopted. Voting for - Collier, Poston, Siddall and Johnson. Against - Brenner. Recommended that the vacation of T. J. Peck be referred to Water and Sewerage Committee to make recommendation at next meeting. Motion N. E. Brenner seconded John S. Collier that the Jane Lyle Wootten property located on the Northeasterly side of South Cobb Drive having a frontage of 579 feet, .bepreaoned for' -business. Hearing to be held Wednesday, July 27, 1955 at B:00 PM. Voted unan- imous. Motion N. E. Brenner seconded •John S. Collier that permission be given to the Volunteer Fireman to make an addition (app. 14 x 26 ft.) to the fire and police building. Material to be furnished by the firemen. Voted unanimous. Motion V.R. Siddall seconded John S. Collier that curb and gutter assessment ordinance on Dell Avenue be unanimously adopted -Attached to these minutes and made a part thereof. Voted unanimous. Councilman John S. Collier retired. A committee composed of Mayor Quarles, N. E. Brenner, Jean E. Johnson were appointed to serve on insurance committee to make study of the Workman's Compensation Policy. 11 Motion N. E. Brenner seconded V. R. Siddall to adjourn. Meeting adjourned. Mao James E. Grist was present also. ` Purpose of meeting to hear cause why the property of Jane Lyle Wootten at South Cobb Drive should not be zoned for business as requested by same. Mr. & Mrs. G. R. Fulton and Mr..Bourn of the Christian Church were present. Motion John S. Collier seconded N. E. Brenner that the property of Jane Lyle Wootten as described in legal notice attached to these minutes and made a part thereof be zoned for business. Voted unanimous. Motion John S.
