06-04-1956 Regular Meeting
1- 4 The regular meeting of Mayor and Council- was held June 4, 1956, at 8 p. m. at the City Hall. Mayor James E. Quarles presiding with the following Councilmen present: N. E. Brenner A. V. Bolton, J. E. Johnson, D. M. Scarborough, Murray Sonenberg, J. 6. White and R. H. Wood. Motion J. E. Johnson, seconded N. E. Brenner to adopt 4iinutes'as'corrected. B. G. Lacey, Corn Road, presented petition requesting said Corn Road to be,- paved. Councilmans6jboj-©•ujhr6ad to JG�uncil the ' aving' ordinanv@ that was being considered for adaption by Council. Mrs. C. W. Fisher's appeal on discision handed down by -Recorder's Court an driving without'a license, blockipg_;fiie truck and`disorderly'conduct by disturbance; Testimony was given by Officers Castile and Brown and witnesses Lee Poss and Edward Eaton. " Motion A. V. Bolton, seconded Murray Sonenberg that the ruling of our court be sustained. Voted unanimous. Councilman Scarborough reported that the Street Committee would meet Saturday, June 9,, at 10 a. m., at which time the paving specifications would be discussed.' An ordinance was introduced by Councilman Scarborough, seconded by Councilman N. E.'Brenner, providing that Fuller Street from'Powder Springs Street to a dead end be improved by paving. Copy of said ordinance attached to these minutes and' made a part -there -of. Move for adoption of Section 6 and 7, of ordinance for paving Fuller Street by D. M. Scarborough, seconded by N. E. Brenner.- Voted unanimous. An ordinance was introduced by Councilman D. M. Scarborough, seconded by Councilman N. E Brenner, providing that Corn Road, from Spring Street to, Anderson Circle be improved by paving. Copy of said ordinance attached to these minute& and made a part thereof. Move for adoption for Section 6 and 7, of ordinance for paving Corn Read by D. M.. Scarborough, seconded N. E. Brenner. Voted unanimous. An ordinance was introduced by Councilman D. M. Scarborough, seconded by Councilman N. E. Brenner, that Dell Avenue, between Evelyn Street and McLinden Avenue be improved by the construction on each side with a concrete curb and gutter and resurfacing. Copy of said ordinance attached to these minutes and made a part thereof. Move for adoption of Section 6 and 7 of ordinance for construction of concrete curb and gutter and resurfacing Dell Avenue, by D. M. Scaroborough, seconded by N. E. Brenner. Voted unanimous. Motion D. M. Scarborough, seconded Murray Sonenberg, that Police Chief Epps be authorized to have six-inch hight "No Parking" signs painted on Police and Fire Department Building. Voted Unanimous. White that a 2-hour parking limit be set on the east side of Roswell Street from Railroad to intersection of Gilbert Street. Voting fbr: Bolton,' Brenner, White, Wood and , ,Johnson. Against: Sonenberg, S� Motion A. V. Bolton, seconded by Murray Sonenberg that the neels of the Police Department be granted as outlined in letter from Chief T. Paul , Epps, dated June 4, 1956, except the water fountain in the amount of $405.40. Voting for: Wood, Bolton, Sonenberg, White and Johnson. Voting Against: Brenner, Councilman Sonenberg requested that the PoliceChief and Police Committee to get together and choose site and approximate cost of constructing target range. City Attorney requested to check and see if proper coverage was being given by agency collecting money for city. Motion N. E. Brenner, seconded by A. V. Bolton that the property located on the north-west corner of Hawthorne and Davis Streets and adjoining 2 8.3 existing city limits of City of Smyrna, be, on application of Comer Holcomb accepted into -City of Smyrna. Voted unanimous. Motion Sonenberg, seconded J. G. White that the city furnish two electric outlets in front of the City Hall for telephone boothes at a_cost of $30.00. Voted unanimous. Motion J.. E. Johnson, seconded R. H, Wood that the city purchase glass to cover the council Srable at a cost of $39.00 with approperate felt to go under. glass. Voted unaminiou s. Scarborough that the property located onnthe north side of Cobb Farm Road and adjoining existing city limits of City of Smyrna, be, an application of A. V. Bolton, accepted into City of Smyrna. An ordinance was introduced by Councilman A. V. Bolton, seconded by Councilman R. H.
