Quarles presiding with the following councilmen present: N. E. Brenner., A. V. Bolton, J. E. Johnson, Murray Sonenberg, J. G. White, R. H. Wood and City - Attorney Harold S. Willingham, Mr. Lou Schreibman; thanked Mayor and Council for this appointment as Chairman of Civil Defense and outlined their work for this year. Motion, Murray`Sonenberg, seconded A. V. Bolton that Lou Schreibman Chairman of Civil Defense be authorized to sign checks with Mrs. Helen Baldwin, Clerk, as cosignee on the bank account of the Smyrna Civil Defense. Voted unanimous. . , . Letter read by Mayor Quarles from the Little ball team thanking the city on fixing the ball field. Letter from R. F. Hollahan,, vice president of McDougal Company, on several locations the city could make safer by eleminating-hazardous cadditions. - . City Attorney, Willingham reported that the Bonding Firm of Robinson - and Humphrey had been authorized by the Engineers firm of Weidman and Singleton that it was alright on their part the issuance of 150,000 water certificates, t Attorney Willingham was requested to request the Gobb County Water Authority to lay a 8" water main down South Cobb Drive from Kennesaw Drive to Ridgecrest Road, Mayor Quarles. -Water Committee, Chairman of ,Finance Committee and City Attorney, were sceduled to to meet with Mr..Tom Northcutt at 10 A. M. Saturday, June 2, at the city hall to work out the -contract; Engineer pre skey recommonded'a 10� per hour wage increase for R. J. DeBoard, effective his next check. Motion A. V. Bolton, seconded R. H. Wood that the raise of '10¢ per ),our be grant8d, Effective his next check. Voted unanimous., Discussion was held by Sonenberg on equipment repairs needed. Water and sewerage Committee were appointed to look up with post haste 281 the feasibility of letting contracts for -laying water aftd sewer lines or letting the City continue doing this work themselves. Motion N. E. Brenner, seconded Murray Sonenberg that Earnest Jones, J. R. McClure and Charlie Dobbs be appointed tax assessors -for 1956•with the combined salaries not to exceed $1,000.00 with the Mayor authorizing to negotiate and -appoint a committee to investigate method of tax assessing, Mayor Quarles appointed R. H. Wood Chairman with J. G. White and J. E. Johnson to make study and make recommendations back on method of tax assessing. Motion A. V, Bolton, seconded N. E. Brenner to adjourn.
