May 22, 1956, at 8 P, M. at the City Hall. Mayor James F.. Quarles pre-
siding with the following councilmen present: N. E. Brenner, A. V.
Bolton, J. E. Johnson, Murray Sonenberg and J. G. White.
R. L. Gordon, Gober Terrace, requested relief as he was at the end
of the line and his, water was continuously" muddy. ,
' Citizens' of Fuller Street, with Mr. Jeffares as spokesman, requested
information.concerning paving of their street.
`A -group of citizens in the 300 block*of Dell Avenue, requested that
the damage done to their grass sodded ditches hFectified and- assurance
that it would not happen again, 1.
A complaint was presented on the parking of trucks bn the street
at the intersenction of Concord Road and Hollis Street at the residence
of Raymond Dunton andinformation was requested if his property was
zon8d for business, and -if he paid license.;
Mr. Bill McDaniell of Dunn Street, requested information as to the
shortage of water, .at, the present time.
Mr. 'Jack Davis; Superintendent of Cobb County Water System, stated
that )�e believes the city needs a larger water storage tank, as the city
was using more water than could be pumped during the peak hours of
consumption which -,are in the late afternoon,
Mr. Leland Williams, speaking f or,Little Concord Road neighbors,
whose property adjoins old city dump property, complained of the smoke
and odor of burning trash and the city allowing raw sewerage to run
down creek when pump was being repaired, on South.Cobb'Drive;
City Engineer Presley assured Mr. Williams that the pumping station
was going to be moved across highway, "so the pump would.not-get flooded
out, and plans'were being worked out ,so a spare pump can be on hand.
Captain Karatzau, of 650 McLinden Avenue,
requested curb and gutter petition for McLinden.Avenue.
'Mr.. Norris of McLinden Avenue, requested the -bumps be taken out of
street before street is re -surfaced.
Hearing open on the rezoning of the C, V. Reeves property at 573
McLinden'for T. V. and Radio repair.

Motion N. E. Brenner, seconded J. E:. Johnson that the property of
C. V.. Reeves, r573 McLinden Avenue be zaned for T. ,V. , snd Radio .Repair
business for the duration of the,present ownership.. Voted undnimous.
Attorney Harold Willingham and Mr. Lex Jolley arrived.
Mayor Quarles reported that Mr, Tom Northcutt had,•proposed to put
up 450,000, cash with credit at the rate of $250, per sewer tap to be
charged against. fifty thousand until used up, if the city would give
sewerage to his subdivision'to be located on the Crowe and -Campbell
r property, Total number of houses in proposed subdivision to be one
thousand, when completed,
Motion N. E. Brenner, seconded Murray Sonenberg that the Water
Committee, be -given adthprit`y to investigate the feasibility of building
a water storage tank.. Voted unanimous..
Motion J. E. Johnson, seconded A..V. Bolton, that the city employ
the firm of Weidman and Singleton Engineers to do the engineering sub-
ject to obtaining financing and subje' t o orki g out a mutual -and ,
satisfactory agreement on building a 11 to do away with€d�
east side imhoff tank and give sewerage' to -S. Atlanta, W 1 Street and r �G
Quarles Avenue. Voted unanimoun: '1•
Motion Murray Sonenberg, seconded A. V, Bolton, that the city '
curfew the use. . of water for sprinkling lawns, between 3 and 9 P. M.
and all water customers be notified through U.-S. Mail with the
Police Chief to check violations..

Second, $1.00 Charge
Third, 5.00 Charge
Fourth, Discontinue Service.
Penalty as follows:

The continuation of meeting of Ma or and Council was held on May
29, 1956 at the City Hall at 8 P. M. ayor James E. Quarles presiding

Attorney Harold S. Willingham,
Mr. Lou Schreibman; thanked Mayor and Council for this appointment
as Chairman of Civil Defense and outlined their work for this year.
Motion, Murray`Sonenberg, seconded A. V. Bolton that Lou Schreibman
Chairman of Civil Defense be authorized to sign checks with Mrs. Helen
Baldwin, Clerk, as cosignee on the bank account of the Smyrna Civil
Defense. Voted unanimous. . , .
Letter read by Mayor Quarles from the Little ball team thanking the
city on fixing the ball field.
Letter from R. F. Hollahan,, vice president of McDougal Company, on
several locations the city could make safer by eleminating-hazardous
cadditions. - .
City Attorney, Willingham reported that the Bonding Firm of Robinson -
and Humphrey had been authorized by the Engineers firm of Weidman and
Singleton that it was alright on their part the issuance of 150,000
water certificates, t
Attorney Willingham was requested to request the Gobb County Water
Authority to lay a 8" water main down South Cobb Drive from Kennesaw
Drive to Ridgecrest Road,
Mayor Quarles. -Water Committee, Chairman of ,Finance Committee and City
Attorney, were sceduled to to meet with Mr..Tom Northcutt at 10 A. M.
Saturday, June 2, at the city hall to work out the -contract;
Engineer pre skey recommonded'a 10� per hour wage increase for R. J.
DeBoard, effective his next check.
