A special meeting of Mayor and Council was held April 16, 1956, at
the City Hall at 8:00 P. M. Mayor Pro-tem, N. E. Brenner, pre-
siding with the following Cbuncilmen present: A. V. Bolton, J. E.
Johnson, D. M. Scarborough, Murray Sonenberg and R. H. Wood.
Letter from C. V. Reeves, 573 McLinden Avenue read requesting his
property be rezoned for businesa.. .
As property had not.been posted.as.required by charter, hearing was
posponed till May 7, 1956.
Hearing on the rezoning on Koningsmark property, located on S.
Atlanta Street opened.
No opposition.
Motion A. V. Bolton second Murray Sonenberg,-.that the .Koi.ngsmark
property be zoned for business. Voted unanimous. "
The request of E. C. Edge to bring his property on N. View Place
into city referred to planning and zoning to be brought back
on May 7.
Mr. Curtis Miller, 582 McLinden Avenue requested estimated cost of
curb and gutter for his street.
Mr. V.I.R. Siddell commended thercity on the fine job on curb and
gutter and sidewalks on King Street.
Mr. James E. Bardon, McLinden Avenue would _like to have street
lowered befor curb and gutter is installed as this lot is 3 feet
lower than street.
Mr. Dallas Gutherie presented itemized list of cost of paving
Bank Street from Gutherie to Fraser Street. His request for
help referred.to Streets and Finance Committee.

Mr.. R. L. hearing on his appeal before .Mayor and Council
on traf.ic violation continued until 7th May.
The request for sewerage on S. Atlanta Street to be studied and
the feasible of tying it in with Quarles Avenue and Wills Street.
Motion R. H. Wood Second Murray Sonenberg that the Park Committee
be authorized to purchase two plots lo6 x 250 from Dallas Gutherie
and H. C. Barnes on the north side of Whitfield Street at a price
of $1,000.00 each for a park on east side of town, and to be
named East Side Park. Voted unanimous.
Motion R. H. Wood second A. V. Bolton that the Parks Committee
.`be authorized to purchase Approximately seven (7) acres on S.
side of Church Street from Clifford Henry for cite of Swimmimg
Pool and Recreation Center. Voted Unanimous.
Motion R. H. Wood second A. V. Bolton that the street leading off
the south side of Cherokee Road to the City Park be named Ward
Street and signs be erected. Voted unanimous.
Councilman Johnson reported that a second police car had been
ordered and would be delivered completely equiped in two (2j)
weeks and on delivery of the car that the Chief's car not be used
except in an emergency where private car would be normaly used.
Motion D. M. Scarborough second J. E. Johnson that the Chief's e
buying gas and oil from city be discontinued today.
Chief Epps stated that when the city discontinued selling him gas
and oil at a lower price than the service stations that his car
would automatically be withdrawn from city service.
Scarborough's motion admended to read after Police car is delivered
and. in service for Chief Epps gas and oil purchasing be discontinued.
Voted unanimous,
Chief Epps.stated that his car was withdrawn for service by the
city for any emergency.
Motion Scarborough second J. E..Johnson that car #43 go out of
service and all city equipment be removed when the 2nd police car
is delivered. Voting for: R. H. Wood, J. E. Johnson, D. M.
Scarborough. Voted agaftist: A. V. Bolton, obstaining, Murray
Sonenberg.
Motion A. V. Bolton second R. H. Wood that,city employees be
paid ten cents (100�,) per mile on authorized city business for '
their cars service with approval of Finance Committee'. 'Voting
for: R. H. Wood, J.,E. Johnson, and A. V. Bolton.
Agadist D. M. Scarborough and J. E. Johnson
Motion D. M. Scarbrough second by Bolton that J. G. !Ah.ite be
nominated to fill the unexpired term of Councilman from Ward
#1 effective May 1st.
Motion Johnson that Bill Miles be nominated as,Councilman for,
Ward #1.
Voting for White: Scarbrough, Wood, Bolton and Sonenberg. ,
Voting for Miles Johnson.
Motion Scarbrough second Johnson to adjourn,
