The regular meeting of the Mayor _and,Council was held at the City Hall,
November 2, 1953 at 7 :45 PM. Mayor G.N. Duncan presided with _the following
councilmen. present: John.Collier.. C.M.. Hamby, H.L..McM tyre,. Harry Mitchell,
and G.R. Yarbrough.
Minutes of previous regular and special meeting.read..With the correction of
the.motion concerning election banners to read -- these banners, do not
imply endorsement -by the City, instead.o.f.of the City.
Notion by Harry Mitchell., seconded_.by.. C.M. Hamby that any election banner
over street. that is endangering public, -.safety to be. taken .down by the police
immediately or the person to whom .the.,banner- ebelongs to be notified. Voting
unanimous. '
A group of citizens from Elizabeth.Street..with..B.C. Cochran a.s sookesman came
before Council in, regard .to getting said. street .paved. The Street Committee
with John -Collier -as Chairman and Mayor Duncan .to contact Mr.. Durham and
see if he would sell... strip of croDerty at corner of Elizabeth and Spring St.
so. Elizabeth St. Could.be..widened.
Motion.by John..Collier,,seconded by Harry.Mitchell.to purchase and erect
street light for. the .far end of .Eli.,,abeth. Street at Railroad,.. and at the
corner of Hawthorne and Marston Streets. Voting -unanimous.
J.C. Harder and Mr. Tensley of. Fleming Street request quick claim. deed to
property known as McGriff Street which joins their. property. Refer to
street committee to be. taken. care .of .
G.R. Yarbrough, Chairman of Planning and Zoning. read the application.of
T.F. Reed reauesting,the rezoning -of the property located.at_.the.nostheast
corner. of.Grady and...Powder.,,Springs Street, also petition-supporting.this
application which .are .attached to and. made.a part thereof of.tKe6e minutes.
No objection was given.
Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded by Harry Mitchell. that. theproperty
described by T.F. Reed. in his application ..letter dated. Seot ember. 70 1953
be zoned for grocery business. Voting. unanimous.
Mr.. Calhoun, .attorney for Carroll..Baking .Company came, before Council asking
for business license for this year and preceding, -years. Refferred to License
Committee with letter to be written by .Chairman Harry. Mitchell to Mr.. Calholm.
Motion by G.M. Hamby, seconded.by_Harry Mitchell. to instruct City Attorney to
draw up an.. ordinance that at no time would beer.,., or any alcohol ..beverages
be allowed to be'sold, stored, or served at. the &��rna Park Community Center.
Voting unanimous.

Miss Darri nda Martin.. read a petition. about _ Ameri.can_ Legion Post #160 ard. City
of Smyrna concerns. certain footage and selling_ of alcolic beverages on said
legion.property. Also, requesting, audience with..Legion._ Miss...Martin to be
notified when date has.been set for. audience.

Letter from the Secretary of Smyrna,.Chamber..of.Comrerce.read.about citizens
of Wayland.Park thinking our. water rates .unjustly high. Turned.over to
Chairman of Water _and. Sewerage Committee, G.R.. Yarbrough to. handle.
Polioe Chief C.B. May recomended. that a motorcyle and rider could. be used
efficently from ?GPM to 12PM.
Mr.. Milo Smith with..the. Cobb .County Planning. and Zoningto be invited to the
next regular meeting and ask to give a. 15 to'20 minute talk. on his work.
Motion._by Harry Mitchell., seconed by H.L. McEntyre that City. C1erk,I.Mrs.
Baldwin be given athority to hire assistant clerk, subject to the. approval of
finance committee at the rate of 137.50 per.week... Voting.unanimous.
