Mayor G.I. Duncan presiding with the following' Councilmen present:
V.R. Siddall, N.E. Brenner, John Collier and G.R. Yarbrough,
City Attorney, Harold Willingham present.
Minutes of regular and special meeting of September read and
approved as read.
Mr. & Mrs. Andrew H. Anderson of Bank Street requested compensation
for damage done to their property by the cutting of Bank Street.
Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by G.R.'Yarbrough that the City
r settle all claims with Mr. & Mrs. Andrew Anderson for the sum of
two hundred fifty dollars (250.00) with details to be handled by
City Attorney Willingham. Voted Unanimous.
Mayor Duncan reported that the City had a good chance to get hg1p
from the Federal Government thru the Federal housing and Home
Finance Agency on installing additional needed water lines and
elevated water tank if the requested data was complied imm-ediately.

epresentivies of Tindall and Company ask that their firm be given
chance to submit figures if and when the City decides to sell
additional Water and Sewerage Revenue Certificates.
The construction bids on the 18 inch out fall line read from the
followin g'contractorss Chester Contracting Company, Pat 0. Chester
and Company, Turner- Ogburn Construction Co. Inc., S.C. Hornbuckle
and Allgood Brothers. Allcc'0ntracte1-attached to and made a part
thereof of these minutes.
The construction bids were turned over to the water and Sewerage
Committee to make recommendations.
Mayor Duncan made the following recommendation:
1. That three(3j additional.F�remen be hired.
2. A policeman be stationed at the corner of Atlanta and Church
Street and the corner of King and Church Street on Sunday
MorAings,
3. The Mayor salary be raised to $75.00 per month Mayor Pro-
tem to•$50.00 per month and all Councilmen to A0.00 per
month effective January 1, 1955.
�.1 N.E'z Brenner was requested to contact Mr6 Zack Arnold of the
Georgia,Municipally Association for recommendations of a City
C ` Manager.

1` Motion by G.R. Yarbrough seconded by N.E. Brenner that the petition
of Tillman Memorial Church, 583 Concord Road for incorporation in
the City Limits be accepted and to be presented by legislgture at
their next session. Voting unanimous.
Mr. L.E. Avery, Manager of the Jonquil Theatre r-quested by letter
that the sidwalk- in;front of the theatre be repaired,' -
Fire Chief John Thomas report of October 1st 19-55 read. The Fire
Committee to look wnto the ne-ed of a larger motor for truck #1
Motion by John Collier, seconded by V.R. Siddall that the following
work be authorized by Councils
2 Windows in rig room C 23.40 ea.
Labor for installing windows
Fan type heater for rig room

Drying rack for hose

Motion by V.R. Siddall, seconded by G.R. Yarbrough that Chief
Thomas be allocate the usual mileage for use of his personal
car 'on City' business. Voted unanimous.

Motion bar V.R. Siddall, seconded by N.E. Brenner that the need
for winter uniforms for the Fire Department be turned over to
the Fire and Police Committee with authority to act. Voted unanimous.
Motion by V.R. Siddall, seconded by John Collier that the Fire and
Police Committee be authorized to act in the matter of uniforms.
for the Police Department. Voted unanimous.
Finance report read by John Collier.
Motion by V.R. Siddall, seconded by John Collier that Mr. Watts
be given authority to go ahead and erect fence and install lights
on the City garage behind Belmont Shopping Center. Voted unanimous.
Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded by V.R. Siddall to continue
meeting Monday October 18, 1954 at 8:p.m. Voted unanimous.

Continuation of regular meeting October 18, 1954 8:P.M. Mayor
G.N. Duncan presiding with the following Councilmen present,
G.R. Yarbrough, V.R. Siddall, N.E. Brenner, John Collier, H.L.
McEntyre.
Letter of resignation from C.B. May, Chief of Police read.Attached
to and made, a part thereof of these minutes.
Motion by H.L. McEntyre seconded by V.R. Siddall to accept
Chief May's resignation. Voted unanimation.
Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded by N.E. Brenner that the City
of Smyrna extend water and sewerage service to serve 26 units in.
La Vista Acres -at a total cost of $6,014.00, Money to be advanced
by La Vista acres. Voted unanimous.
City Supt. L.E. Watts reported on Mr. Williams of State Health
Dept. inspection of disposal plant as follows:
The plant in good condition.
A stand by pump be purchased and
installed at approximately $600.00.
For clorene to be used.
Motion by John Collier, seconded by N.E. Brenner, that we give
water service to the residence on King Spring Road who pertition
Council for same on pertition dated October 2, 1954, provided
they pay cost of instilutation. Voted unanimous.
Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded'by V.R. Siddall that we elect
as alternate registrar.„' Author Bacon, Voted unanimous.
Motion by G.R. Yarbrough., seconded by V.R. Siddall that the
City gtve Green Hills Subdivision credit on Woodale Dr. and
Timberland Drive from Benmac Road south to Woodale Dr. f.or
curbing at the rate of .25 cents per foot covering only that
section of these two (2) streets which has the cement curb.
This amount to be credited against the outstanding balance due
for water and sewerage service in, these two (2) streets. Voted
unanimous.
