06-07-1954 Regular Meeting175 The regular meeting; of the, Mayar and Council was held at the City Hall,, June 7,_ 1954, at 7:45 P.M. Mayor G.N. Duncan presiding with the following Councilmem •Present, H.L. McEntyre, V.R. Siddall, John Collier, and N.E. Brenner, and G.R. Yarbrough Minutes of previous meeting read. Mayor Duncan reported that.the 1938 Continental Fire Truck was sold to The American Legion Po-st #160 for $1,75.00 A.group.of citizens requested settlement on cost of sewerage taps fee for Stephens andMann st. Request for paving of Mann Street referred to Street Committee. City Supt. Watts was requested to -figure the cost of curb and gutter for Mann St. A group of Citizens of Pat Mell Road Community requested information as to coming into the city and what advantages the city had to offer. Ldtter from Southeastern Underwriters Association read by Mayor Duncan. . • Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by V.R. Siddall that the regular July Council Meeting be posponed one week until July 12th becamse of July 5th being a holiday. Voting unanimous. More seats requested for ball park. Mr. B.L. Walker would furnish lumber for seats. Estimated cost to city would be $105.00. Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by V.R. Siddall that the request for additional seats for ball field be referred to Parks and finance committee with authority to act. Voting unanimous. Motion by H.L. McEntyre,, seconded by G.R. Yarbrough that no parking on West side of King Street be allowed and signs be,erected. Voting unanimous. Finance report read by John Collier. A group of merchants came before Council requesting the development of the Parking lot on W'. Spring St. Finance Committee was ask to take into consideration the site on Alexander St. of M.N. Tatum for a City Shop. The redecorating and renovating of the"Chamber of Commerce Office referred to Finance Committee for consideration. Motion by N.E.'Brenner,, seconded by G.R. Yarbrough for Mr. Watts to get estimate on cost of building a shed suitable to store City equipment on city property at the disposal plant, and report back at next Council meeting. 'Voting unanimous. Report of Fire Chief, John Thomas read and commended on by the Mayor. Volunteer Fire Department represented by Harold Gann agreed to .meet back on 114th of June, a Chief of Police C.P. May thanked Mayor and Council for granting him the privileage of attending the Police School in Atlanta for eight weeks. Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by John Collier -that we adopt the gmendment to the plumbing Code section 1:24 page 41. A copy attached to these minutes"and made a part thereof. Voting unanimous. V..R.. Siddall recommended that Saturday be pickup day on extra trash by special truck. Motion by G.R. Yarbroug4, seconded by V.R. Siddall that we give - Arthur Crowe water service on Spring Road and refund $25.00 per meter on all meters above 25 installed with Mr. Crowe paying in advance cost of pipe. Motion Carried-- Voting for- Yarbrough, Siddall, McEntyre and Brenner - Voting against. Collier. Planning and Zoning Committee•recommended that Mr. B.F. Reed's`j,-P ,/`sub -division as a whole not as a part with minium B grade• panit curb and all thru streets 24 ft. wide. Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded by V.R. Mayor G.N. Duncan presiding with the following Councilmen present. N.E.­Brenner, John°Collier, H.L. McEntyre and V.R. Siddall. Purpose of meeting to discuss and take action on renting a piece of heavy equipment, the Backhoe. Motion by N.E. Brenner, seconded by V.R. Siddall that -the City of Smyrna rent backhoe from W.C. Mayor Pro-tem H.L. McEntyre presiding with the fo1loTiing Councilmen present: G.R. Yarbrough, N.E. Brenner, V.R. Siddall, and John Collier. A, group of citizens from Little Concord Road requested that Someth ing'be done about the'overloaded disposas plant. ' Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded lay V.R. Siddall that Mr. Watts be authorized to take necessary steps to eliminate condition at the disposal plant, laying pipe. from plant to Knickajack Creek if necessary. Voting unanimous. Mr. -George Kreeger, Jessie Bailey and Leslie Camp representing the Nelms Lodge requested that W. Spring Street not be made a one way street and sidewalks be placed on'North Side of street. Councilman Siddall stated that nothing had been"proposed on the side walk and no one way street had been recommended by the street committee. That by Widening the Street it would not -be necessary to do so. Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconded by N.E. Brenner that the CO-Stx of a Sewer tap in'any section of the Corp. Limits of Smyrna be $150,.00 per single family unit. Multiple unit dwellings excepti able. Voting unanimous. Recapping business license of Fouts Service Station referred to, Licence Committee.
