05-25-1953 Special Meeting126 A special meeting of the -Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall, May 25, 1953 7:45 P.M. Mayor G.N. Duncan presiding with the following Councilmen present: H.L. McEntyre, John Collier, G.R. Yarbroughs and C.M. Hambyo Motion by C.M. Hmnby, seconded by John Collier to issue business license to French Ice Cream Co. for $100.00 for 1953. Voting Unanimous. Council agreed to go along with water and sewerage on the 50 proposed houses in Bennetts Sub division so long as the original agreement is lived up to. I k Motion by C.M. Hamby, Seconded by H.L. McEntyyre that we give water And sewerage to the prodect of Mr. Herren, Walker, Lewis, and other gentleml at cost plus 10% subject to the approval of Planning and Zoning Committee on house, with streets paved and curbed. Voting unanimous. Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, Seconed by H.L. McEntyre that we hire Mr. Lovern to complete Green Hills Curbing, on Kennesaw Dr, Benmac Road. -and Trail - wood to the intersection fo Benmac Road. Voting unanimous. ,, Recommended that the clerk get Police to call Geo. W. Moss every Sunday at 6:0 Clock to awaken him in reference to getting streets cleaned. Motion by John Collier, Seconded by C:M. Hamby that we permit Crowe Outdoor Poster Co. to erect 3 billboards- One beside Bob Lewis Pool room and two in the vacant lot adjacent to Roy Fowlers, Beauty Parlor. Voting unanimous. WHEREAS, the traffic situation in the downtown of Smyrna has become congested; and WHEREAS, many automobiles and vehicles are being parked for 4� long periods in the downtown area of the City, further adding to the existing traffic congestion; and r WHEREAS, it is in the best interest and welfare of the citizens of Smyrna that this traffic congestion and parking situation be remedied in so far as possible by appropriate restrictions imposed by the authority of,the Mayor and Council of the City of Smyrna; and WHEREAS, the aforesaid traffic situation would be considerably 4 allevJ-ated``by establishing parking limits on designated streets in the downtown section of the City of Smyrna; NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Mayor and Council of the City of Smyrna, and it is hereby ordained as follows: � e 1. That there is hereby imposed the following restrictions and limitations on the parking of motor vehicles in the designated down- town sections of the City of Smyrna during the hours from 7:00 A. 1.1, to 6:00 P. M. on each day other than on a Sunday or legal holid..y: (a) North Atlanta Street, from Spring Street to Powder Spring Street, 2-Hours. (b) South Atlanta Street, from Spring Street to Church Street, 2-Hours. (c) Concord Road, One Way, West side only to Church Street, 2-Hours. (d) Wrest Spring Street, front of Post Office, 5-Yinutes; Viest of Post Office, 2-Hours, South Side only. (e) East Spring Street, front of Telephone Building to yellow curb, 15-Minutes, from R. R,'to Atlanta Street, North side only, 2-Hours. (f) Bank Street, from Atlanta Street to King Street, where parking is designated, 2-Hours. % (g) Sunset Avenue, North side only from Atlanta Street to first residence, 2-Hours. (h) Powder Springs Street from Atlanta Street to„ Fuller Street, 2-Hours. 2. That any person, firm, or corporation violating any provision of the within ordinance, upon conviction thereof, shall be fined not less than One and no/100 ($1.00) Dollar, nor more than Fifteen and no/100 ($15.00) Dollars for each such offense. i -2-
