01-04-1954 Regular Meetingis9 The regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall, January 4, 1954 at 7:45 P.M. Mayor G.N. Duncan presided with the following Councilmen-present:•G.R. Yarbrough, H.L. McEntyre, C.M. Hamby, John Collier, Harry Mitchell and incoming V.R. Siddall and N.F. Brenner. Minutes of last regular and special meeting read and approved. C.M. Hamby and Harry Mitchell retired. Oath of Office given by Mayor°Duncan to Councilmen elect G.R. Yarbrough, V.R. Siddall, and N.F. Brenner. Motion John Collier, seconed by H.L. McEntyre that Mrs. Baldwin be elected as City Clerk for the year 1954. Voting Unanimous. Oath of Office given Clerk. Mrs. Leroy Price ask permission to -bring her trailor back into the City and park it on her parents (the Deans) lot on Lee St. Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconed by John Collier that this matter be referred t•o the Sanitary and Planning and Zoning Committee. Voting Unanimous. Motion by G.R. Yarbrough, seconed by N.E. Brenner that H.L. McEntyre be Mayor Pro-Tem for 1954. Vott�g Unanimous. Mr. McEntyre not voting. Mayor Duncan read his improvement proposal. Attached to the minutes and made a part thereof. Motion by V.R. Siddall, seconded by N.E. Brenner that the police plan as -read by Councilman Siddall be adopted. Attached to these minutes and made a part thereof. Voting unanimous. Moti^n by H.L. McEntyre, seconded by John Collier that C.B. May be .hired as, temporary Chief of Police. Voting unanimous. Budget for 1954 read by Mayor Duncan attached to and made a part thereof of these minutes. G.R. Yarbrough recommended that the City shop be moved. Referred to Building committee. Motion by V.R. Siddall, seconded by N.E. Brenner that the labors in the Sanitary Dept pay be increased from 90 to 950 and Hr. An increase of 5¢- Motion by John Collier, seconded by V.R. Siddall that Mr. Earnest Jones be elected as chairman of the Tax Assessor Board for 1954. Voting Unanimous. Moting by V.R.-Siddall, seconded by H.L. McEntyre that A.C. Shepherd and•Charlie Dobbs be elected to serve on the Tax assessor Board for 1954. Voting unanimous. Mr. Fish of Highland Bakery petition the City for permission to serve the people of Smyrna. Ref dffed to license Committee for their consideration and action. Motion by N.F. Brenner, seconed by H.L. McEntyre that the meeting adjourn.until Friday January 8, 1954 8:P.M. at which tire the regular meeting would continue.
