Motion by Councilman Stanley McCalla seconded by Councilman
Eames to em loy M. J. Hensley as City Engineer of new pro-
ject, fee 2� o, a"1'75,000.00 or cost of construction of water
and sewerage Voted unanimous.
A special meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City
Hall June ll, 1951. Mayor J. M. Gibson, presiding over the meet-
ing with the following councilmen present: C. W. Jones, Howard
Eames, John Collier and H. L. McEntyre. City Attorney. Harold
Willingham present.
Purpose of meeting to set tax rate for 1951,
Motion by H. L. McEntyre,seconded by Howard Eames to set tax rate
for the year 1951, 10 mills to be.used for General Fund. Voted
unanimous.
Ernest Jones, chairman tax assessors reported the 1951 property
valuation $1,677,545.00 an increase of app. $353,967.00 over the
1950 valuation.
Motion by H. L.- McEntyre seconded by Howard Eames to accept tax
assessors report. Voted unanimous.
Motion by Howard Eames seconded by H. L.,McEntyre to pay chairman
of tax assessors board, Mr. Ernest Jones $125.00. Voted unanimous.
Mr. C. W. Jones, chairman Fire Committee reported to the council
Johnson Shoe Shop had been condemned by the Fire inspection com-
mittee. The council unanimously agreeded that Johnson Shoe Shop
be closed until place meets requirements of the fire inspection.
Letter to be written by clerk informing Mr. Johnson of the action
taken by council.
