The Mayor and Council held their regular meeting at the City Hall
May 5, 19520 7:30 p.m.
Mayor Pro-tem, C. M. Hamby presiding with the following Council-
men present, Glenn Yarbrough, C. Co Terrell, Eugene Rice, and Harry
Mitchell, Jr.
Minutes of previous meeting read. Motion by Eugene Rice seconded
by C. C. Terrell to approve minutes as corrected, motion regarding
signing easement with G. C. Fortner stating road to be graded from
Disposal plant should read road graded from Belmont Hills to Powder
Springs Road. Voted unanimouss, as corrected.
Mrs. Harry -Evans came before the council in regards to illegal park-
ing on Hunter Street joining the ball park. This referred to Harry
Mitchell, chairman of Police committee.
Vincent Turner came before council in regards to locating a trailer
on his yard on Stephens St. Motion by C. C.,Terrell seconded by
Glenn Yarbrough if adjoining property owners do not object to trail-
er being located on yard of Vincent Turner on Stephens that Mr.
Turner be given permission to locate a house trailer in his yard
to be used for permenant house of Mr. Turner parents. Said trailer
to meet health requirements and joining property owners to sign a
petition signifying their approval of the trailer being located on
Mr. Turnerts yard and filed with the city clerk at the.city hall.
Voted unanimous.
Letter read from American Legion asking that City give needed at-
tention to tennis court to make the court in good condition for
use. Mr. Terrell, chairman park and grounds and Mr. Grist to work
plans and improvements of park and tennis court using funds set a-
side in budget for this work.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Glenn Yarbrough for finance com-
mittee to check with electric wholesalers on lamp contract for
park flood lights. Voted unanimous.
Mr. Vincent Turner stated the need for a street light to be located
at Stephens and Mann Sts.

C. Terrell seconded by Eugene Rice to make amendment
ordinance regulating rates as follows; change rate to _
2 mile, and .05X each additional .02 mile. Voted
Motion by Glenn Yarbrough seconded by Harry Mitchell to notify
Mr. C. T. Osborn by mail to pay $75.00 within five (5) days for
sewer tap charge, stating that he had not made any formal application
for sewer tap at the proper time to justify him of paying $50,00,
and if not paid in five (5) days water and sewerage service to be
discontinued. Voted unanimous.
Report of anonymous phone calls to the fire department. Council-
man Yarbrough suggest that an editorial in the newspaper could be
helpful.
Harry Mitchell, Jr. churn. police committee brought before the
council a need for an enforced curfew for teenagers. Attorney
Willingham suggest that the Juvenile Court Judge, Hi Mosley be
contacted for advise on this problem.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Harry Mitchell, that City Attorney
check with Marion Allens office in regards to 20% Federal Excise tax
exemption and to take necessary steps to obtain same. Voted u,
nanimous.
Mr. Grist, Supt. of Maintenance and Construction presented a list
of necessary materials needed to'carry work on properly,'of which
the council gave approval.
Motion by Glenn Yarbrough that cost of printing 100 copies of
Smyrna Plumbing code book be investigated, seconded by Eugene
Rice. Voted unanimous.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by C. C. Terrell to pay bills
subject to approval of finance committee. Voted unanimous.
Motion by C. C. Terrell seconded by Eugene Rice to recess meet-
ing until Monday night May 12, 7:30 p.m. Voted unanimous.

Continuation of regular meeting May 12th, 7:30 p.m. City Hall,
Mayor Pro-tem C. M. Hamby presiding with the following Council-
men present; Glenn Yarbrough, Eugene Rice, Harry Mitchell, Jr.,
and C. C. Terrell. City AttorneynHaro d Willingham, present.
Motion by C. C,-Terrell seconde 4by Glenn Yarbrough to have one
hundred (100) copies of Smyrna code book printed, cost not to
exceed $ 150.009 sec. 111 code to be amended to permit 2" soil
line under concrete for sink in dwellings only. Voted unanimous.
7 Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Glenn Yarbrough to employ Mrs.
Louise Logan to do clerical tax work after regular office hours,.
@ $1.50 per hr. Mr. Jones, churn, tax assessors to keep time and
payment to be made on completion of work. Voted unanimous.
Mr. Willingham reported briefly on status of Federal Aid Application.
Motion by Glenn Yarbrough seconded by Harry Mitchell to -recess
meeting until Monday night, May 19th, 8:00'p.m. Voted unanimous.

Continuation of regular meeting of the Mayor and Council May 19th,
8:00 P.M.
Mayor Pro-tem C. M. Hamby presiding with the following Councilmen
present, Glenn Yarbrough, Eugene Rice, Harry Mitchell, Jr., and
C. C. Terrell.
Motion by Glenn Yarhrough seconded by C. C. Terrell authorizing
_\—C. M. Hamby and Eugene Rice to settle injunction with G. C. Fort-
ner as per terms outlined at council meeting which will appear in
contract. Voted unanimous.
Mrs. Clara Hulsey came before council in reference to an easement
she had signed with the City for "$'1.00 which she stated was a mis-
understanding on her part. This referred to Mr. Yarbrough for in-
vestigating.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Glenn Yarbrough to leave parking
situation on Hunter Street up to police chairman, Harry Mitchell,
Voted unanimous.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Harry Mitchell to instruct Eng-
ineer and Howard McCollum to keep close check on broken meter
boxes and meters and send bill to contractor for,any damages done.
Voted unanimous.

Glenn Yarbrough, chairman Waterworks & Sewerage.
Motion by Eugene Rice seconded by Harry Mitchell to charge Fruit
Bowl license for grocery, drinks and cigarettes, total $35.00.
Voted unanimous.
Motion by C. C. Terrell seconded by Glenn Yarbrough to adjourn
meeting. Voted unanimous.
