A special meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall
August 23, 1950, 7:30 P.m. Mayor J. T1. Gibson presided over the meet-
ing. The Following Councilmen were present: P. P. Shaw, H. L. McEntyre,
Stanley McCalla, Howard Hames and C. AT. Jones. City Engineer, Paul Hen-
sley present also.
The following three alleys were discussed upon report of investigation made
by Councilman Hades:
1. Alley extending from King to Reed Sts. It was stated that alley had
never been opened. Motion made by Hov-lard Hames and seconded by Stanley
McCalla to give quit claim deed to First Baptist Church and Brooke Lowery
for any interest, if any, that the City may have in alley Voted unanimous
ajoining said proArty.
2. Church Street to Love Street desire 100% to be open. Motion by Howard
Hames and seconded Stanley TTcCalla to clean alley out ajoining B. L. Walke ,
D. J. Ray, Ferd Brmvn and Stewart Realty Co., property. Voted unanimous.
3. Whitfield Street Alley. Motion made by Howard Hames and seconded by
P. P. Shaw to ask County to open alley entrance at Roswell Street'to City
limits ajoining 7,1hitfield St. Voted uaanimous.

,Howard dames, chairman 'hater dept., full authority on new water construc-
7,yi Lion to carry out approved plan -with all actions subject to approval by
' City Council. Voted unanimous.
Alotion made by Stanley and seconded by P. P. Shaw to divide the
'Naterworks & Sewerage Sinking Fund between the following three Banks:
1, Cobb Exvhange, Marietta, Georgia; 2. Bank of Smyrna, Georgia and
3. First National Bank, Marietta, Georgia, r0t6t1n9monthly deposits,
so as a deposit t4� e made in each bank once every three months. Voted
unanimous.
Motion made by P. P. Shaw, seconded by Stanley !AcCalla to give City Engin-
eer authority to make survey as to cost of water line for the following
two new sub -divisions: 1. G. R. Parker, Jr. Parker Street (new) and
2. J. Y. Wootton, Lake Drive. Voted unanimous.
Motion made by H. L. McEntyre, seconded by C. VI. Jones to accept Mr. Hensleys
reconnendation to lay 4" line beginning at Spring Street on Mimosa Circle
to street light and fire plug. Voted unanimous.
Motion made by Howard Hames, seconded by C. W. Jones to accept plan of water
lines within City limits as shown on map; recommended by City Engineer, Paul
Henso 1py. Voted unanimous.
Motion made by P. P. Shaw, seconded by C. tN, Jones to

Motion made by P. P. Shaw, seconded by Stanley McCalla to give Wootton, J. Y.
authority to erect a sign located on Bank St and Atlanta St., bearing the
the name, "Bank Street" and below street name bearing the name of 7. Y. Wootton
Realty* Company, space not to exceed 30" length and G" width and sign to be
9t above sidewalk. l Voted unanimous.
Motion made by C. 'At. Jones, seconded by H. L. McEntyre to accent recommen-
dation of Building Inspector6, F. C. Dabney, Jr., not to isauplbuilding per-
mit to R. & S. Construction Co., for house to be built on back lot off Church
Street. Voted unanimous.
Mayor re,-�uests-Marietta Journal make correction of paper statement of August
9th, 1950'; of City Council firing Paul Hensley. Mr. Hensley is still re-
tained by City of Smyrna as City Engineer. M. J. Hensley employed by the
City as Engineer on ',later and Sewerage. Endorsed by entire City Council.
Motion made by Stanley McCalla, seconded by H. L. McEntyre to hire carpen-
ter to complete grandstand at Ball Park. Voted unanimous.
Motion made by Stanley ?:1cCalla, seconded by H. L. TIcEntyre to accept survey
dated August loth, 1950 submitted by Georgia Power Company. Survey attached
to these mi utes. Voted unanimous.
