A special call meeting was held at the City Mall, July 18, 1949 at
8 P. M. The following Councilmen were present: P. P. Shaw, M. L.
Collins, H. L. McEntyre and R. S. Brinson. Mayor J. M. Gibson, pre-
siding.
Purpose of meeting to set a day for formal hearing of the Tax Assessors.
Tax assessors Ernest Jones, J. C. Johnson and R. C. Byrd present at meeting.
Mr. Ernest Jones recommend that the town be surveyed and an up to date
map be made of same.
Total assessments run approximately $1,249,138.00 Mr. Jones stated.
Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to set July 30th,
for formal hearing of Tax Assessors and time from 9 A. M. to 6 P. M.
Voted unanimous.

A PETITION
June 6, 1949.
TO: The Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of
Smyrna, Georgia:
1. We, the undersigned citizens of Smyra, Ga., respectfully petition the
Mayor and the City Council of Smyrma, Ga., to take appropriate action to comdemn
the old one-story frame house located at 506 Spring Street, Smyrna, Ga., and have
it torn down or demolished in the interest of the community surrounding the said
house, VIZ; 1.
(a) This house is a fire hazard and we understand that it has prev-
iously'been condemned as such by the Fire Department of Smyrna, Ga.
(b) The old and dilapidated appearance of this house detracts from the
otherwise neat appearance of the surrounding neighborhood and the
value of the adjacent property.
(c) This old house is infested with rats and other vermin constituting
a health menace to adjacent homes.
(d) This old house, lying vacant and open, has been the scene of in-
decent carousels by disreputable characters and on occasion has .
been used by unknown and shady looking characters as an overnight
stopping place.
(e) This house is owned by a Mr. Will Anderson who resides on Roswell
Street, Smyrna,. Ga.
(f) the former
Mayor of Smyrna, Ga., condemned this house because of its ungainly
and ramshackle appearamce and because it sets too far Vm& from the
line on *ich the other houses are built with regard to the street.
2. We earnestly beseech the Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
of thecit y of Smyrna, Ga., to rid our community of this dirty, dilapidated structure
in the interest of a clean and orderly neighborhood.
