07-06-1949 Regular Meetingi The regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall, July 6, 1949, at 8:00.PM. The following Councilmen were present: P. P. Shaw, R. S.' Brinson and R. B. Logan. Mayor J. M. Gibson presiding. Attorney Willingham present also. Minutes read and approved as read of the previous meeting. Question as to date of ownership, a property owner should make re- turns. Generally accepted as January 1st. Back due Taxes discussed. Willingham suggest sending letters quoting part of New Ordinance passed regarding qualification for voters, which automatically drops any persons name from the registration list who has any back due Taxes. Petition to condemn old house on Spring St. Willingham reads from Law Book as to authority of Council to take action, which states the Council does have authority to dondemn any place which is proven a nusiance to public health. Also to notify all persons concerned to a Council meeting bef or any action is taken. Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to ask Pire 1114 Chief, Bldg Insp., and City Electrician to the next Council meeting at which this matter will be discussed. Also owner of house and names on petition to same meeting. Voted unanimous. Letter from Men's Club read regarding Street Markers being abused by `w careless drivers. Willingham suggest for persons caught and found guilty to be fined enough to take care of the repair. Resignation of T. G. Young from Planning Commission accepted. ' Motion made by R. B. Logan to pay Willingham, Cheney, Hicks, and Edwards an extra fee of$+.'100.00 for services rendered from Jan 1 through June 30, 1949 in addition to and outside the services con- templated to be rendered for the monthly retainer fee. There being no second this was referred to the next meeting. Bills read and motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to pay all current bills. Voted unanimous. Mr. Cox brought to the attention of the Council that Hamby Street needs straightened out. This referred to P. P. Shaw and his committee. Mr. Willingham reports he contacted Ledbetter and Johnson as he was asked to do so and the street paving is being done at present time. Mr. Shaw states the job will be completed within a week or a little longer.. Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to dump City garbage at the disposal plant. Voted unanimous. Mr. R. B. Logan reports Mr. Hamrick has completed four months work and the books are up to date. Mr. H. P.
