02-07-1950 Regular Meeting214 The regular meetin of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall, February 7, 1950 7:30 P.M. Mayor, J. M. Gibson, presiding, with the following Councilmen present; ,P.•P. Shaw, H. L. McEntyre, R. S. Brinson, C. W. Jones and Stanley McCalla' City Attorney, Harold Willingham, present. Minutes of previous regular meeting read. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by P. P. Shaw to approve minutes as read.` Voted unanimous. Minutes of Spacial meetings (Jan. 17th & Jan. 24th) read. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by P. P. Shaw to approve minutes of the two special meetings as read. Voted unanimous. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and 'seconded by P. P. Shaw;'to convey to Mr. R. B. Bearden by quit claim deed what ever interest the City might have in and to a certain alley running N. off Whitfield Street in app. width of 201 ajoining property of the said R. B. Bearden on the East Side of said alley for and in consideration of the said Mr. Bearden paying •the , pro rato paving assessment on the paving of Whitfield St., adjacent to said alley. City Attorney to prepare appropriate quit claim deed and same to be signed for and on behalf of the City by the Mayor and attested by City Clerk. Voted unanimous. Mr. McCollum reported plans were being made to build new houses on Corn Road and Sprung Sts. If sewerage were available possibly 7 on Spring St., and 5 on Corn Road. App. 750t of sewer pipe needed. He also quoted price of check valve app. $125.00, not,including.labor, needed for meter located at Six Points. hv•°w Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to install' on al:t3tude valve, costing app. $125.00 plus necessary labor. Voted unanimous. Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R.•S.,Brinson to p chase twenty- four (24) meter boxes., Voted unanimous. Mr. Willingham stated, •since the Disposal Plant was outside of the City limits it would not be in order to draw up Ordinance concerning it, but ' the grounds could be posted. Mr. McCollum was appointed to arrange for signs to be painted for posting grounds. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by P. P. Shaw to purchase 5001 of 2" galy. pipe and 2001 of 3/411 copper tubing for Hickory .Hill Drive. Voted unanimous. Mr. Hardy, Day Policeman suggested the need of a "No turn sign on Red light at the Spring St and Atlanta St traffic light. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by Stanley McCalla to have "No turn on r64,,$ight" sign attached to traffic light located at Spring and Atlanta Sts. Voted unanimous. ,School Boy Patrol commended for their good work in cooperation with the Police Department handling the trafficcduring school hours. Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by R. S. Brinson to purchase a 195Q One -Half Ton Studerbaker Truck for t1500.00, with trade in allowance $450.00 for old pick-up truck plus $50.00 as down payment of one-third of total cost of truck. Truck to be purchased from Walker MotoreCompany and that the Mayor be authorized and directed to execute a Note with the Bank of Smyrna for balance due $ 1,000.00, atr6% interest and twelve months to pay, same to be attested by City Clerk. Voted unanimous. Mr. McCalla reported all taxi stands had been checked and instructed as to parking of taxis and notifying drivers to register at the City Hall and to have available at all times their drivers license. Motion made by C. W. Jones and seconded by Stanley McCalla to have taxi driver register at City Hall. Voted unanimous. Motion made by C. W. Jones and seconded by Stanley McCalla to put a "No Parking on Right Hand Side of Spring Street from R. R. crossing to Atlanta Street. Voting for; C. W. Jones, Stanley McCalla, H. L. McEntyre, and P. P. Shaw. Voting against; R. S. Brinson. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by P. P. Shaw to elect Ernest Jones as chairman of Tax Assessors for the year 1950 and at a fee of $80:00. Voted unanimous. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by H. L. McEntyre to elect Charles Dobbs to serve on Tax Assessors committee for the year 1950 and at a fee of $50.00. Voted unanimous. 25 Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by Stanley McCalla to elect L. J. Austin to serve on Tax Assessors committee'f or the year 1950 and at a fee of $50.00. Voted unanimous. Motion made by R. S. Brinson and seconded by C. W. Jones for City to dispose of any interest which they might have in alley ajoining Hill and Fleming Sts. Voted unanimous. Motion made by P. P. Shaw and seconded by H. L. _McEntyre to adopt Ord- inance Fixing ticense fees -Excise Taxes & Permit fees upon wholesale and retail dealers in the business of selling Malt Beverages.
