December 29, 1947
A meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall
on December 29, 1947, at 7:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Lorena P. Pruitt, Mayor,
with all members present except Mr. E. E. Jackson; present were
H..D..Durham, B..H..Hanson, H. .P.-bleCollum, and W. A. Quarles.
Also present were Attorneys Willingham and Edwards.
Minutes of Icember 8, 1947 were read and approved.
Motion was I'amas
de by Mr. Hanson, seconded by•Mr. Quarles, that
Charles J. be given permit to build a service station on
Atlanta Str(*t, according to plan submitted. Motion was unanimously
carried.
A building permit was granted to W. F. Stewart „f or a five -room
house at 236=Bank Street, according to F.H.A. approved plan
submitted.
Motion was m9de by. Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. hanson, that
contract Ni th Cobb County drawn up according to instructions to
city attorneys at the November 18, 1947 meeting be signed. This
contract takes care of any additional tapping of the ten -inch
water line owned jointly by Cobb County and the City of Smyrna and
the installation of water meters thereon. Motion was unanimously
carried and the contract signed.
Bill against the Construction Fund from the N.C.& St. L. Railway for
watchmen while'Greene & OtDonnell, Sewer Contractors, were tunnel-
ing under the Tracks, was turned over to the city attorneys for
investigation.: Credit Memoranda from Grinnell Company and U. S.
Pipe and Founder for returned materials not ud.ed in installation
of Water System were also turned over to the attorneys for handling.
Motion was madeby Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that City
Attorneys be paid $200.00 for their services according to statement
rendered.
Motion was made %y Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. McCollum that
Merritt & Welker,, Engineers, be paid not in excess of 62 0 of the
construction actually erected, which is estimated to be approxi-
mately $190,000.00, said 6ejo to be in full for all plans prepared
and for all supervision of construction rendered and for any and
all other engineering fees of any type, kind or description; and
that the attorneys for the City are ordered and directed to
ascertain the actual amount of construction erected from canceled
vouchers and advi'4e the City the amount of same. Motion was
unanimously carried. ,
