11-18-1947 Called MeetingNovember 18, 1947 A call meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall on November 18, 1947, for the purpose of discussing financial settlement with Cobb County for the 10-inch water main owned jointly by Cobb County and the City of Smyrna. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Lorena P. Pruitt, Mayor, with all members present; H. D. Durham, B. H. Hanson, E. E. Jackson, H. P. McCollum and III. A. Quarles. Also present were: County Commissioner George H. McMillan and Ernest Thomas; Engineers Twiggs Merritt and Robert Weaver; Attorneys Harold Willingham and Scott Edwards. Following a discussion of the cost of 10-inch,'water 12n.e` from the four -lane highway to Six Points, the following motion:was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, and unanimously carried: That inasmuch as all cost of this water line has been borne thus far by the c ounty , check on the Construction Fund . in the.. amount of $22,571,.33 be issued to Cobb County in full payment of the City's share, one-half of the 10-inch water line from the four -lane highway to Six Points immediately outside the eastern city limits of Smyrna, including all costs of installation of said 10-inch pipe, pump house, pump equipment, the fire protection and service connections on said 10-inch line, together with all engineering costs upon receipt of check for $324.32 from Cobb County !dater System f6r one-half the cost of altitude valve furnished by the City of Smyrna. Ar. McMillan requested that papers be drawn up t'o the effect that after payment of one-half of the cost of the altitude valve on this side of the meter at Six Points is made by Cobb County, everything this side of the meter at Six Points is Smyrnats exclusive responsi- bility. He further requested that a contract be drawn up in which the City of Smyrna agrees to pay him the same price for water that he may have to pay Marietta, in case of a break -down at the pumping. station, for such time as the pumping station is not in operation. City attorneys were instructed to prepare such papers. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, that Mrs. .16 Pruitt be authorized to sign a note for $2500.00 to pay bills out- standing against the General Fund from the Bank of Smyrna. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. McCollum, that permit for five -room house on Brown Circle be granted to W. F. Stewart, according to F.H.A. approved plan submitted.
