11-06-1947 Regular Meeting•s November 6, 1947 A meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall on November 6, 1947, at 7:30 P. M. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor with all councilmen present: H. D. Durham, B. H. Hanson,"E. E. Jackson, H. P. McCollum and VV1. A. Quarles. Attorneys Willingham and Edwards were also present. Motion was made by Mr. Hanson, seconded by -Mr. McCollum, that Liquor License issued W. C. Lewis, April 11, 1947, be revoked. Motion was carried, Mr. Quarles voting negative. Motion was made by Mr. Hanson, seconded by Mr. Durham, to deputize the following listed volunteer firemen to act in case of fire: E. •R. Cobb, Fire Chief Horace Adams D. A. Hamby Harold Dison George Groce Ralph Lewis Bob Austin Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. McCollum, that fi fas be issued against Mr. Awtry, Awtry and Lowndes Funeral Home, Atlanta, Ga., for taxes and interest from 1925, as no return has been made on two lots owned by him on Nichols Drive since that time. Motion was unanimously carried. In accordance with suggestion made by Judge•Havikins, Attorney Scott Edwards was authorized as the city's representative to meet with Attorney Raymond Reed, as representative for property owners who have filed appeals in connection with tax assessments, for the purpose of appointing a third man to act with VV. H. Blackstone and J. R. Brewer in arbitrating appeals, in order that tax statements might be issued before December 20. Clerk was instructed to notify all residents of Matthews -Street who had their water meters disconnected and are now receiving water from Cobb County thAt if their past due water bills are not paid within ten days of receipt of notice, they will be turned over to the City Attorneys for collection. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, and unanimously carried that the following 1945 and 1946 water bills be canceled: N. R. McMannus 1.50 R1.50 for May 31, 1946 - Joe B. Langford for Dec.31, 1945 Luther J. Reed - ;1.75 for Dec.31, 1946 Motion was made by Mr. Durham, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that all bills outstanding against the Construction Fund be paid. Motion was unanimously carried. It was agreed that payment of water bills against Alexander Machine Shop be accepted as indicated below: July 31, 1947 - $4.75 Aug. 31, 1947 - 3.00 Sept.30, 1947 ' - 3.00 Oct. 31, 1947 - 3.00 L 67. Pruitt, Mayor, with all Councilmen present except H. P. McCollum: Those present being H. D. Durham, $. H. Hanson, E. E. Jackson, and W. A. Quarles. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson that Liquor License, expiring January 31, 1948, replacing revoked license of 111. C. Lewis, be issued to J. R. Pruitt.
