A regular meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the
City Hall on October 6, 1947 at 7:30 P.M. , _
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, Mrs. Lorena P.
Pruitt, with all councilmen present except E. E. Jackson.
Present were: H. D. Durham, B. H. Hanson, W. A. Quarles, and
H. P. McCollum.
The following building permits were granted according to plans
submitted:
Henry. Ronigsmark, Jr., King Street, 4-room house with bath;
R. E. Cadle, Bank Street, six -room house with bath;
W. F. Stewart, Bank Street, five -room house with bath;
W. H. Beshers, Atlanta Street, garage apartment, first
floor to be built this year and second floor next year.
Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that
due to the fact that some trouble has been caused by changes
made in penciled sketches submitted in requesting building
permits, blue prints will be required in the future before
permits are granted. Motion was unanimously carried.
Representatives of the Volunteer Fire Department met with the
Council reporting on the progress made in organization and
training. A list of supplies needed was submitted and the
representatives were instructed to secure prices and present
at the next meeting. They were assured of the Mayor and
Councilts full co-operation.
Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that
an Ordinance to Protect Fire Hose Belonging to the City of
Smyrna be passed. Motion was carried and ordinance is attached
hereto and made a part of these minutes.
Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, to
appoint Mr. W. H. Blackstone to serve as arbitrator in appeals
filed protesting tax valuations made by assessors. Motion was
unanimously carried.
Pursuant to advertising required by the statute a public hearing
was held on the ordinance to pave King Street, introduced'by
Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman B. H. Hanson,
at the September 9, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council.
After such public hearing, motion was made by Councilman E. E.
Jackson, seconded by Councilman W. A. Quarles, that the ordinance
for the paving of King Street introduced by Councilman H. D.
Durham and seconded by Councilman B. H. Hanson at the September
9, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council be passed in toto as
introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such ordinance
was adopted.

was held on the ordinance to pave West Spring Street, introduced
by Councilman H. 1). Durham and seconded by Councilman B. H. Hanson,
,at the September 9, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council.
After such public hearing, motion was made by Councilman E. E.
Jackson, seconded by Councilman W. A. Quarles, that the ordinance
for the paving of West Spring Street introduced by Councilman
H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman B. H. Hanson, at the
September 9, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council be passed in
toto as introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such
ordinance was adopted.

Hanson, at the September 9, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council.
After such public hearing, motion was made by Councilman E. E.
Jackson and seconded by Councilman W. A. Quarles, that the ordi-
nance for the paving of Brown -Circle introduced by Councilman
H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman B. H.. Hanson, at the
September 91 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council be passed in
toto as introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such
ordinance was adopted.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
