08-27-1947 Regular Meeting47 August 27, 1947 A meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall on August 27, 1947, at 7:30 P. M. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, Mrs. Lorena P. Pruitt with the following members present: H. D. Durham, B. H. Hanson and W.•A. Quarles. Attorneys Willingham and Edwards were also present. Following the reading of the minutes, there was a motion by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, that they be approved as read. Motion was unanimously carried. Building permits were granted as follows: Carl T. Pearson for a house on Hawthorne, with four rooms e and bath, according to plan submitted. Smyrna Taxi Company for an addition to present building. Construction must be completely in accord with present structure, with plate glass window as shown on plan submitted. The following resolution governing operation of taxicabs was introduced by Councilman Q. A. Quarles: All taxicabs must have name of operator, or operators, painted on outside of each door -- letters not to be less than one inch. high. Each Cab must have numbers painted on same, viz., No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, etc. Same must be painted within ten days after license has been issued. There will be only one operator to a Taxicab -- Regular and substitute driver must be registered with City Clerk, special driver being assigned to specific cars. This car may not be used by anyone else. Any person driving taxicabs not authorized to do so will be subject to fine. Motion was made by Mr. Hanson, seconded by Mr. Durham, that this resolution be adopted. Motion was unanimously carried. Motion was -made by Mr. Durham, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that the following regulations concerning electrical work and plumbing become effective immediately: No electrical work or plumbing, regardless of ownership, will be done by any person who does not have a license to do electrical work or plumbing within the city limits of Smyrna. Electrical and plumbing permits must be secured at the City Hall before work is begun and work_ must be inspected by the City Electrical Inspector or City Plumbing Inspector, as the case may be. City Clerk should be notified at least two days before inspection is desired. Any violation of the foregoing shall place the offender .� liable to fine not to exceed T550.00. Motion was unanimously carried. Motion was made b7 Mr. Hanson, seconded by Mr. Quarles, that an ordinance to protect water meters, fixtures or appurtenances of a water meter within the City of Smyrna and belonging to same be adopted. Motion was carried, Mr. Durham voting negative. Said ordinance is attached hereto and made a part of these minutes. 11 38 August 27, 1947 conttd.
