08-18-1947 Regular Meeting33 August 18, 1947 A meeting of the Mayor and Council was held at the City Hall on August 18, 1947, at 7:30 P. M. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor Mrs.'Lorena P. Pruitt with all councilmen present except H. P. McCollum: B. H. Hanson, H. D. Durham, E. E. Jackson, and VV. A. Quarles. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, to purchase •a 1946 Ford truck from Walker Motor Company, trading in Ford Pickup now owned. Motion was unanimously carried. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, not to charge Herbert•Wallace for May water bill, as the water was so muddy it could not be used. The following building permits were granted: To Mr. F. D. Cargal for a "two-story house on Hunter Street, according to plan submitted. To M. J. Hensley for a house to be built for Robert J. Austin on Bank Street, according to plan submitted. Plan submitted by Linton Self for building a house on Hawthorne Avenue was disapproved for the reason that it did not meet.require- ments for a residence in that section. Clerk was instructed to notify Mr. Self ,by letter. Motion was made by Mr. Hanson, seconded by Mr. Durham, that Murphey Equipment Company be employed to pull Peerless Pump, mike a thor6ugh inspection of same and reinstall it at the new Sewage disposal Plant, according to terms of their letter dated July 17, 1947, and on file in this office. Motion was unanimously carried. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson,, that signs be posted requesting information about a possible place that might be used by the City for dumping purposes. The signs shall state also that until a new dump is-f ound,'no garbage or paper will be picked up by City employees. Tin cans and bottles only will be picked up every two weeks. Best possibly arrangements shall be made with the stores to burn papers and trash in order that the town might be kept clean. Motion was unanimously carried. Pursuant to advertising required by the statute a public hearing was held on the ordinance to pave Hill Street, introduced by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum, at the July 7, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council. After such. public hearing, motion was made by Councilman H. D. Durham, and seconded by Councilman E. E. Jackson, that the ordinance for the paving of Hill Street introduced by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum at the July 7, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council:.be passed in toto as introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such ordinance tivas adopted. Pursuant to advertising required by the statute a public hearing was held on the ordinance to pave Hughes Street, introduced by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum, at the July 7, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council. After such public hearing, motion was made by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman E. E. Jackson, that the ordinance for the paving of Hughes Street, introduced by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum at the July 7, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council be passed in toto as introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such ord3:nance was adopted. 34 August 18, 1947 (contd.) Pursuant to advertising required by the statute a public hearing was held on the ordinance to pave Bank Street, introduced by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum, at the July 15, 1947 meeting of the Mayor and Council. After such public hearing,'motion was made by Councilman H. D. Durham and seconded°by'Counci loran E' E. Jackson, that the ordinance for the paving of Bank Street, introduced by Councilman H. b. Durham and seconded by Councilman H. P. McCollum at the July 15, 1947 meeting of'the Mayor and Council be passed`in toto as introduced. Motion was unanimously carried and such ordinance was adopted. Petitions requesting passing of Ordinances for paving of streets were introduced and are attached at the close of these minutes and made a part hereof; they are more particularly described as follows: Petition No. 1: Presented by a Committee from King Street and bigned by seven (7) Property owners, this being a majority of the Property owners on said street. Petition No. 2: Presented by a Committee from West Spring Street and signed by eight (8) Property owners, this being a majority of the property owners on said street. Petition No. 3: Presented"by a Committee from Brown. Circle and signed by ten (10) Property onwers, this being a majority of the property owners on said street.
