April 5, 1948
The regular meeting of the Mayor & Council was held at the City
Hall on -'April 5, 1948, at 7:30 P.M. .
The meeting was called to order by the Mayor, Mrs. Lorena P. Pruitt,
with all Councilmen present. H. D. Durham, Ii. P. McCollum, P. P. Shaw
Henry Konigsmark, Jr.,and.M. L. Collins.
Motion was made by P. P. Shaw, seconded by M. L. Collins that the
minutes of the last meeting be approved as read. Carried unanimous.
Motion was made by H. D. Durham and seconded by H. P. McCollum that
balls be approved for payment. Carried unanimous.
A license to, sell beer in Joycef s Coffee Shop, asked for by Mrs.
Pennington was tabled till later.
R. E. Lewis, Stokely, meeks and Jim Petty were heard about disorder
and gambling in pool room and action was tabled till later date.
' Pin Ball machine licenses were discussed and tabled till later date.

C;. Mrs. Emaline Collier made a complaint that the City was abusing their
employees for putting in pipe for driveways in her sub:' -,division. This
complaint had no foundation.
Motion made by Henry Konigsmark, seconded by M. L. Collin's that the
City install �2 telephones in the City (on poles in lock boxes) at the
Post of $3.38 each per month for the Police. Carried unanimous.
Motion made. by. M P. McCollum, Seconded, by H. D. Durham that Mra.Mittie
V!illiamsbn be required to pay Fi Fa on 1947 taxes. Carried, Henry
Konigsmark voting No.
Petitions requesting passing of Ordinances for paving of streets were in
introduced and are attached at the close of these minutes and made
a part thereof. They are more particularly described as follows:
Petition #1. Presented by a Committee from Walker Street and Walker
Court and signed by (24) property owners, this being a majority
of the property owners on said';.ttneet.
Petibion #2. Presented by a coftmittee from Church Street and the intersec-
tion of Concord and Church Stsp and signed by (4) property owners,
this being a majority of the property owners on said street.
The Mayor ask that a motion be made to handle cities business in meetings
Motion made by P. P. Shaw, seconded by M. L. Collins, that H. A. Davenport
Hubert Lollis (Col.) and Jim Goss (white) be given license to pick up
and let out colored passengers in the City for $20.00 per cab. No stands
to be allowed for their e&bsdinith6n_Cit7. Carried Unanimous.
Building Permit for C. T. Dsb_orn off Elizabeth Street tabled till later
date.
Motion made by H. P. McCollum seconded by P. P. Shaw that all business
in the future,all bills and permits to be signed by council,will be
handled.in Council meetings only,except small bills where discount
is available, will be paid b7r-TF6 clerk before discount is lost.
