01-05-1948 First Regular Meeting79 January 5, 1948 The first regular meeting of the Mayor and Council for the year was held at the City Hall• on•January 5, 1948, at 7:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Lorena P. Pruitt, Mayor, with all Councilmen present: H. D. Durham, Be H. Hanson, E. E. Jackson, Vf- A. Quarles and H. P. McCollum. Following the reading of the minutes of December 29, 1947 meeting, motion was made by T,i . Quarles., seconded by Mr. Hanson, and unanimously carried, that they be approved as read,. Bills outstanding "against the Construction Fund and General Fund were read by .the Clerk. Motion was made by Mr. Hanson, seconded by Mr. Durham, that they be approved as read. Motion was unani- mously carried. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that Murphey Equipinent• Company be paid for repair and installation of C� the deep•well pump at the Disposal Plant. Motion was unanimously carried. Inasmuch as V. A. Davenport has had free water service from the time that his contract was drawn for the use of his well and there has been built on his property a spring house; a transformer was placed there by the Georgia Power Company and numerous other improvements made during the period that the City of Smyrna used water from this source, it is felt that he has been well paid. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Hanson, that beginning with January statements, Mr. Davenport be billed regularly for water consumed. Motion was unanimously carried. Motion was made by Mr. Quarles, seconded by Mr. Durham, that no person outside the City Limits of Smyrna be furnished fire protection unless they are water customers of the City of Smyrna. Motion was unanimously carried. All old business pending having been .attended to, the three retiring Councilmen, Be H. Hanson, W. A. Quarles and E. E. Jackson, were relieved of their duties and departed. Thelma D. Myer , Clerk t� 0 AA Mayor January 5, 1948 Newly elected Councilmen M. L. Collins, Henry Konigsmark, Jr. and P. P. Shaw -were duly sworn in, Mayor Pruitt administering the oath. Financial statement for the month of December 1947 was read. Applications for day and night policemen from S. G. Sexton and R. A. McCollum, respectively, were read. s M January 50 1948 (Cont+d) Motion was made by Mr. Shaw, seconded by Dr. Collins, that F. F. Rohner be retained as Plumbing Inspector for the year 1948. • Motion was unanimously :carded. Motion was made bar Mr. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Durham, that the present city employees be retained for another month until an audit of all records can be made' and a budget prepared for 1948. This motion was amended by Mr. Konigsmark to the effect that every effort should be made to secure a clerk by January 12., This amendment was accepted and the motion was unanimously carried. Mrs.. Hiatt was asked to advertise for a clerk in the Marietta Daily Journal, beginning salary to be $130.00 per month. Mrs. -Pruitt was requested to secure bids from several auditing companies and have an audit of the City of Smyrna books made as early as possible. agreed It was further that Mr. J. R. Brewer and Mr. W. H. Blackstone be requested to complete their arbitration of tax valuations not later than Monday, January 12. , There being no further business, motion was made by Mr. Konigsmark, seconded by Mr. Durham, that the meeting adjourn.
