The meeting of Mayor and Council continued from December 7, 1998, was held at Smyrna
City Hall. The meeting was called to order by presiding officer Mayor A. Max Bacon at 7:00
o'clock p.m. All council members were present except Councilman Wood. Also present was
City Administrator Howard Smith, City Clerk Melinda Dameron, City Attorney Charles E.
Camp and representatives of the press.
SHOW CAUSE HEARING:
(A) Cobb Center Pawn - 2175 Old Concord Road
Mr. Al Cochran, attorney for the City of Smyrna explained the purpose of the meeting is to
conduct a Show Cause Hearing for Cobb Center Pawn - 2175 Old Concord Road - to consider
the revocation, suspension or probation of the business license. Mr. Cochran further stated
there are 14 charges of theft by receiving against the business owner Mr. Chaim Oami.
Detective Ricky Lee presented the evidence against the Pawn Shop.
After debate by both attorneys the Mayor and Council recessed to consider their decision.
Councilman Cramer made a motion that the business license for Cobb Center Pawn, 2175 Old
Concord Road, be suspended for a total of seven days and the business be placed on probation
for five years. Councilman Cramer stated the suspension will be in effect January 1 - 7, 1999,
with the business receiving credit for the days already closed. Councilman Newcomb seconded
the motion. Motion was approved 6-0 (Councilman Wood was absent).
ADJOURNMENT
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
