09-29-1980 Regular MeetingSEPTEMBER 29, 1980
A regular scheduled meeting of the Planning and Zoning Board was called to
order at 5:40 p.m. by Chairman Allen Potter. Those in attendance were
M. E. Jernigan, George Griffin, Billie Stephens, Jack Strickland, Bill
Wood, Tom Corso and Secretary Paula Cannon.
The first order of business was a request by Ted G. Jones to rezone
property located at the intersection of Matthews Street and Whitfield
Street. The property consists of approximately nine (9) acres. Mr. Jones
requested that the property be rezoned from L.I. (Light Industry) to
RM-10, for the purpose of building single family attached duplexes and
some triplexes.
Mr. Jones stated that the Zoning Ordinance as it presently reads does not
have a specific category for the above mentioned type of development. He
requested RM-10 zoning since this category most closely fits the type of
structures he intends to construct, being single family attached housing.
He said he would need several variances in order for the subdivision to
comply with._the_plans.he.had in mind for the structures to be built.
Mr. Jones stated that there were twenty two (22) lots to be developed, with
most being duplexes. He also stated that the smallest lot would be 15,000i)
square feet in size.
It was mentioned by Mr. Jones that he felt that the neighbors would be more
agreeable to the RM-10 zoning than the present zoning of Light Industry.
Bennett Realty will be building the structures with the price range being
$65,000.00 and up. The name of the project is to be Cumberland Corners.
After little discussion a motion was made by Tom Corso, seconded by Jack
Strickland, that the property be rezoned from Light Industry to RM-10;
and that the variances be granted as applied for.
With no further business the meeting adjourned at 6.:10 p.m.
