08-24-1981 Regular MeetingAUGUST 24, 1981
The regular meeting of the Planning and Zoning Board was held on August 24, 1981
and called to order by Chairman Allen Potter. Those in attendance were George
Griffin, Bill Wood, Jack Strickland, Dan Scoggins, W. C. McCoy, and Secretary
Paula Cannon.
The first order of business was a request by Reed Konigsmark to build two (2)
duplexes on a vacant lot presently owned by Charles Pritchett; the lot in question
lies on Whitfield Street. Mr. Konigsmark has an iption to purchase the lot if
his zoning is approved. He stated that he intends to use masonite siding on
the planned stru-tures so as to blend in with the other houses in the
neighborhood. He said they will be very much like those he built in Cumberland
Corners, with a selling price for each duplex of between $70,000 and &80,000.
W. C. McCoy stated that he felt that the construction of duplexes would enhance
the neighborhood; therefore he made a motion to rezone the above property from
R-15 single-family to RD (Residential Duplex). The motion was'seconded by Dan
Scoggins. Vote on the motion was unanimous.
The second order of business was also a request by Mr. Konigsmark to build one
(1) duplex on Cherokee Trail. Construction of the duplex will be very much
the same as the others he has built. Mr. Konigsmark stated that the selling
price for this unit will be between $80,000 and 83,000. Considering the
fact that the sideyard lot line for each side is eleven (11) feet he will not
be constructing any type of carport, garage, etc. He will, however, have a
driveway for each unit.
Mr. Konigsmark stated that he will request that Mayor and Council give him a
variance for a thirty (30) foot front yard setback building line. This will be
in line with the other houses on the street.
Mr. Griffin stated that he felt that this zoning, if approved, would be a good
buffer to stop the possibility of more commercial property being developed on
this particular street. Mr. Griffin made a motion that the property be rezoned
from R-15 single-family to RD (Residential Duplex) for the construction of one
duplex. The motion was seconded by W. C. McCoy; with the vote,,on the motion
being unanimous.
With no further business the meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
