The City of Smyrna Planning Commission held their regularly scheduled
meeting at the Smyrna Police Department Court Room on July 23, 1979
and was called to order at 5:30 o'clock p. m. by Chairman Allen Potter.
Also present was Bill Wood, Jack Strickland, Gene Jernigan, Charlie McCoy
Tom Corso, Paula Cannon and Lyn Williams. John Steely of Ward 7 and
Jim Hawkins of Ward 4 were also present.
The first order of business was a request by John Dickson to rezone
property located at 793 Smyrna Hill Drive from G.C. to L.I. Property
being described as follows:
All that tract or parcel of land lying and being in Land Lot
381, 413 & 414 of the 17th District, 2nd Section, Cobb County,
Georgia as per plot by J. S. Ross and Associates, Inc. dated
January 30, 1979
Beginning at a point on the northwest corner of South Cobb
Drive where Smyrna Hill Drive intersects, running along the
north side of Smyrna Hill Drive in a southwesterly direction
279.80' to a point of beginning running thence S 330 12' 16"
East 150.37' to a point and corner; running thence S 540 05'00"
west 130.0' to a point and corner running thence S 330 14' 07"
East 151.91' to a point and corner; running thence S 530 24' 17"
West 130.0' along Smyrna Hill Drive to point of beginning.
Mr. Dickson was present to discuss with the Planning Commission the conditions
of his rezoning request. He stated there would be a 25 foot setback from
Smyrna Hill Drive; with a 5'X 90' mini -warehouse to be constructed where
present fence is located on said property.
After some discussion Gene Jernigan made a motion the request be approved.
The motion was seconded by Bill Wood and vote for the motion was unanimous.
The second order of business was a request by Donald L. Plunkett to rezone
property on Brown Circle and South Cobb Drive from G.C. & 0. I. to G. C.
Property being described as follows:
All that tract or parcel of land lying and being in Land Lots
412 and 413 of the 17th District and 2nd Section, Cobb County,
Georgia, and more particularly described as follows:
Beginning at an iron pin, placed at the point of intersection
of the easterly right of way of South Cobb Drive and the
northerly right of way of Brown Road; running thence north
40 degrees 06 minutes 23 seconds west a distance of 156.52 feet
to a point running thence north 36 degrees 56 minutes 30 seconds
west a distance of 310.81 feet to an iron pin found; running
thence north 60 degrees 26 minutes 20 seconds east a distance of
94.22 feet to a nail found running thence north 57 degrees 10
minutes seven seconds east a distance of 83.38 feet to a nail
found; running thence north 25 degrees 22 minutes 17 seconds
west a distance of 67.09 feet to an iron pin placed; running
thence north 25 degrees 25 minutes 31 seconds west a distance
of 85.67 feet to an iron pin found running thence north 64 degrees
33 minutes 05 seconds east a distance of 150.00 feet to an iron
pin placed; running north 67 degrees 47 minutes 42 seconds east
a distance of 70.00 feet to an iron pin placed; running thence
north 25 degrees 27 minutes 57 seconds west a distance of 200.00
feet to an iron pin placed; running thence north 67 degrees 47
minutes 36 seconds east, a distance of 303.46 feet to an iron
pin placed; running south and southwesterly along the northern
right of way of Brown Road, a distance of 1253.18 feet and the
point of beginning.

Mr. Plunkett was present to answer any questions asked by the Planning
Commission. Another plat was submitted showing an Entrance to be opened
on Concord Road.
After much discussion about a natural buffer being left along Brown Road
facing Brown Elementary School it was motioned by Charlie McCoy and seconded
by Tom Corso to accept the rezoning with the stipulation that any damaged
trees, foliage, etc. be replaced by developer to allow for adequate buffer.
The vote for the motion was unanimous.
The rehearing of the rezoning for Mr. Harvey Nix was brought up for dis-
cussion. Mr. Nix was not present.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at approximately
6:30 P. m.
