04-30-1979 Special Meeting3 APRIL 30, 1979 The City of Smyrna Planning Commission held a special meeting on April 30, 1979 at Brown Elementary and was called to order at 5:30 o'clock P.M. by Chairman Allen Potter. Also present was M. E. Jernigan, George Griffen, Tom Corso, Jack Strickland, Bill Nall, Bill Wood, Charlie McCoy, and Anita Mullins. Mr. Jim Hawkins- Councilman.Ward IV, and Mr. Jack Schinall - Councilman Ward V were also present. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the property of Donald Plunkett which fronts on Brown Circle, South Cobb Drive and Concord Road. Mr. Plunkett was present with representatives from A & P and J. C. Penney. There was a discussion on the possibilities of changing the ingress and egress from Brown Road to Concord Road, and also adding a buffer area. Mr. Sam Whitfield and Mr. Wade Scholes were present to represent the Cobb County Board of Education,Mrs_. Porch the Brown Elementary School Principal was also present. Mrs. Porch expressed her concern for the safety of the children at Brown. Mr. David Rowe of A & P who will be the major tenant stated he would be willing to put up a fence and some plantings to serve as a sound and sight screen. Mr. Jim Sinkway of J. C. Penney Co. had no objections to the fence or- the planting of trees or schrubs. Mr. Plunkett stated that a 20' fire lane would be required around the building, which would not leave a very large area for the planting of a buffer. After more discussion the developers agreed to draw up a new plan showing the location of the school and also, the fence , the planted area and the entrance on Concord Road. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6:45 P.M. Allen Potter - Chairman
