01-30-1978 Regular Meeting77 JANUARY 30, 1978 The scheduled meeting of the City of Smyrna Planning Commission was held at city Hall, January 30, 1978 and called to order at 5:30 o'clock P.M. by Chairman Norman Miles. Also present was Jack Strickland, Tom Corso, George Griffin, Allen Potter and Anita Greathouse. Also present was City Attorney Chuck Camp and Mayor Frank Johnson. Those absent were Sam Owens, and Richard DeBord. The first order of business was the introduction of our newest member Mr. George Griffin who replaced Mr. David Robinson when he moved out of the City. The second order of business was a discussion of the minutes from our August meeting. Tom Corso made a motion that the minutes be approved as submitted. The motion was seconded by Jack Strickland and vote for the motion was unanimous. There was a discussion between the Commission the Mayor and the City Attorney. This discussion was to decide what authority the Planning Commission now had in view of the recent court ruling. It was decided that the Commission is to continue operating as usual until further notice. It was also decided that the Planning Commission should be more explicit in their fact finding and investigations. The Commission is to continue its operation on an informal basis. It was also noted that the commission is only an advisery body but, they have the authority to to request traffic count, distance to intersections, school systems, etc. when it is necessary to make a fair and accurate recommendation. Allen Potter made a motion that we set a dedline on accepting rezoning applications. He recommended the cut off time be set for the third Monday of each month which will give ample time for prepareing and mailing out the agenda and other necessary materials. The motion was seconded by Tom Corso and vote for the motion was unan- imous. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 P.M.. Chairman - Norman Miles
