01-22-1979 Regular MeetingJANUARY 22,1979 The City of Smyrna Planning Commission held their regularly scheduled meet- ing at City Hall January 22, 1979 and was called to order at 5:30 o'clock P.M. by Vice Chairman Allen Potter. Also present was Tom Corso, George Griffen, Bill Wood, W. C. McCoy, M. E. Jernigan, Jim Tolleson - Ward I Councilmen, and Anita Mullins. The first order of business was the introduction of the new members of the board, which are Ward I - W. C. McCoy and Ward VII - M. E. Jernigan. There being no official business the Commission discussed the Hospital Connector. Mr. Jim Tolleson stated that he had attended several meetings about the connector and brought us up to date on the progress. Mr. Tolleson futher stated there would be an additional meeting at Griffen Middle School the following week. The information was informative and was appreciated by the commission. After some discussion Mr. M. C. McCoy made a motion to recommend and urge Mayor and Council to prepair a resolution and send to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners and the State Highway Department recommending that they update the study on the East West Connector and consider the heavy traffic which has developed in recent years due to new housing developments which have been built in the current path of the connector. The original study was done before 1972 and the maps were drafted in 1972 and 1973. The Commission feels this should be updated and a southern route considered which would avoid coming through Smyrna. Vote for the motion was unanimous. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:00 o'clock P.M.
