on April 4, 1977. The meeting was called to order

Commerci (1) A building permit was requested by Granny's
Chicken to b okee Road. Plans had been approved by the Fire Marshall
and the Building Inspector recommended they be approved. Jerry Mills made a
motion a 25 foot variance be granted and the permit be approved. Rem Bennett
seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
(2) Horace D. Huggins of 1110 McLinden Avenue requested a variance and permit to
build a garage. A letter from his neighbor, W. R. Vaughn of 1120 McLinden Avenue,
stated he had no objections to the garage being built within five feet of the
common property line. Homer Kuhl made a motion the variance and permit be approved.
C. O. Canada seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
Jim Tolleson made a motion the Rules and Regulations for the Smyrna Fire Depart-
ment be approved as amended. Rem Bennett seconded the motion and the vote was
unanimous. Jim thanked the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief and City Attorney Camp
for their assistance.
Jim Tolleson asked Mayor and Council to approve a shift change in the Fire Depart-
ment. He made a moti 2 hours on, 24 hours off, be changed to 24 hours on,
48 hours off, effecti 14, 1977. Rem Bennett seconded the motion. During

shift and it had worked fine, and he thought the Fire Department could cut
op expenses on the 8-hour shift. Jim Tolleson said we would have to hire
5 to go on an 8-hour shift. Jerry Mills stated he would vote for the
24 shift because we did not have the money to go to the 40-hour shift at
this time. Vote on the motion was six to one. Homer Kuhl voted against the
motion.
